Hi All,

I am new to this forum as I've recently purchased Magna TL (ES) '03, which comes with factory fitted head unit with a tray underneath it.
I want to replace it with a double din head unit (Subaru Impreza 2011), which i am getting from my mate as he has replaced his head unit with GPS. However, I'm not sure how to replace it. Can someone please advise, if I will require a bracket and/or some other part to perform this task, and where can I buy it from? My location is Ryde (NSW).
Also, that my head unit has a security light on it, which i think is for immobiliser which flashes when my car is locked (I use key to lock/unlock my car as remote is not working.)

Many Thanks,

For starters, you will need to either rewire the radio harness to suit the Magna; or find suitable Subaru->ISO & ISO->Magna Aerpro harness adaptors (at Autobarn or similar, if available) as it won't be a plug and play arrangement

You may be able to get away with just using the bracket that attaches the pocket in the single din setup.

The security light - or absence thereof - won't be an issue, as it doesn't actually interfere with the immobiliser, its just a security feature for the radio itself.

Hi adhir,

I did the exact same thing in my own 03 TL ES Magna. The bottom tray just unscrews from the plastic face and you can throw it away, leaving a perfect double-DIN sized hole. Personally I mounted a Pioneer deck to mine, but I didn't need any special brackets or anything - it just bolted straight in.

As for the wiring, I just found the Magna audio wiring diagram online and then cut & soldered all the wires from the car to match the wiring for the Pioneer unit. Took me about four hours all up. All of the plastics in the car just unclip and the only screws you need to remove are the ones holding in the radio bracket. There are lots of posts here on the forums about how to unclip the plastics.

Thanks for the update. Got this Head unit today, which is actually 'Clarion PF-3295A-A' with bluetooth connectivity. However, my friend used to have steering controls to access bluetooth, and also he had aux jach extended to the compartment in between two seats.
I was just wondering; will I be able to get 3.5 mm jack extended out of the system, and how will it be done. Also, how will I be able to connect to bluetooth without steerin controls.

I expect you'll have some difficulty integrating the bluetooth capabilities as per the head unit, into the Magna, as no Magna models had no provision for bluetooth interfaces.
You will need to find an aftermarket solution (maybe a accessory 380 bluetooth/handsfree switch, and even then it may not be compatible with the unit's setup). If the radio unit has provision for an aux cable at the rear then you can run a aux jack anywhere in the car (perhaps by replacing the cigarette lighter socket with a aux input jack to keep it looking tidy), of if you want it in the centre, run the aux cabling under the centre console and drill a hole in the bottom of the centre console bin for the cable to fit through.

Ultimately if the bluetooth feature is important to you, if may be more convenient, and in the long run cheaper, to buy an aftermarket unit with integrated bluetooth controls. For example, in my Eclipse CD5030 I can accept and reject calls by the head unit, and has provision to mount a microphone elsewhere in the car (I mounted mine at the top of the steering column shroud).
These types of units can be had for under $200, and sounds like it would be a great deal less hassle than what you're proposing.

3.5mm jack can easily be run through the back of the tissue box, or if the cable is long enough it can easily be run into the bottom of the centre console. You'll see what I mean once you remove the plastics.
