Just purchased a TJ Advance , I have had it 3 weeks and the battery has fully charged on a trip to the city and back, 500ks. It was down when bought but starting OK. ( red in sight hole ) but green when I got home 250ks, it had no Charge light when turned on, I removed centre console unit and checked the globe , tested Ok , Reassembled and tested , Worked, remounted the unit retested and light was fading and
then went off, unit out and retested, globe and contacts , swapped holder with oil light all OK, tested contacts to pins all good ,
But nothing now , is there some where else for me to check. checked wires on alternator all clean and seem OK .
Thanks Des.

Battery shows 14+ volts when running , it is just that the light does not come on when the ignition is turned on, only the oil light shows , It all seems to be working OK but would not be able to tell if it stopped charging,
Thought there may be a connection some where that I could check, does the charge go thru the fuse box ?.
Thanks Des.

Alternator is not charging.
+1. Haha.
I like your enthusiasm for checking the globes...
Check the brushes on your alternator. I had an intermittent light come on at idle, replaced brushes and attached regulator. Fixed my problem.
Check battery voltage with car running and lights on, should be 14.xx volts. If it's lower get your alternator checked out

There's a 10A fuse in the junction block (above the driver's right foot) which, if blown, will prevent the charge light from glowing during the test phase (at startup) but I'm fairly sure it looks after a bunch of other things which would be more obvious than the charging globe, so probably not it. I'd have a good check of the two-pin connector to the alternator, if there is no contact the light won't glow. Could potentially be a dodgy alternator (primary charging circuit could still be working), if no luck with the fuse or connector I'd suggest getting the alternator tested by an auto-elec.
