Ok, well im sure this has been discussed many times before but im new so i have no idea :P Anyway i have a auto TJ 3.5 in which i want to convert it to a 5sp manual. What parts will i need exactly? and will my existing computer work with the new box or will i need a new computer or a piggy back? how will the clutch fit in considering its a auto? any ideas would be thankfull. I realise i need the following..
1) Manual Box
2) Clutch assmblely
3) new console insert ?

Cheers guys. Also if anyone has all the nessacery parts im interested.... I hate Autos!

i'm planning this conversion atm, only coz i fried my ECU...

and it's really not worth it in the end... i'll b looking at about $4000-5000 WITHOUT labour...

you'll need, the gearbox and all clutch/pedals etc etc...

not just the 5-speed ecu, but the BEM and immobiliser aswell (which have to be purchased new, along with new keys)

and lots of other stuff i can't quite remember....

OUCH, thats a bit more than i was expecting. i was expection to be about half of that.... if i have to spent 5k on a transmission im tossing out the turbo idea. not good.

it has been discussed a lot, you should have searched first!! look..

if you had of you woulda found the best option is to trade you ride in on manual one, no ****ing around, and it works! if you have to swap after market gear over do so or start again! it will easily be cheaper (unless you can find a manual box at a rediculously cheap price! )

just from the manual conversion ur car should run up to .4 to .5 of a second quicker down the 1/4 im pretty sure. it will throw u back in the seat heaps more. i have been a passenger in sexed TF'n's auto 3L TF and also a mates 3L manual TF i think it is. the manual murders the auto.

look at it this way, wen u want to sell the car there will b a wider range of buyers that will buy the car with a relatively stock engine with a manual. once u start modifying the engine, the range of buyers significantly decreases. there may b reliability issues and mothers driving their kids to school dont want to b hitting boost past the l.ollypop ladies. ppl that want a significant modded car like a TT magna for example would pretty much only be car enthusiasts. and then, only those who like magnas and/or fwd cars.

think long term. thats all i have to say. and also, wouldnt it b easier to TT or T a manual car?

It has all crossed my mind yeah... the only problem i have ever had with selling done up cars is one guy didnt like the silver console on my TR magna.... not sure bout the box now. I have been offered to swap a TH sports 5sp for my TJ but im not sure....So confused!!! yet i have done to much to my car already to sell it.

On this topic, seeing as the gearbox change is just a stupid idea in essence, what would it cost to strengthen the auto box to handle a say 15psi+ TT setup ?

more than this stupid manual conversion idea :bowrofl:nah, i reckon it would be cheaper (rem, we're looking at least $2000-$3000 for the man conversion:redface: ), as long as you can find someone to do it, it should be possible for less than that!

(edit: i don't recommend it though, manuals are heaps more fun!!!)
