I'm looking at replacing the factory speakers in my '02 Magna LE and I'm pondering what to replace them with. I'm not going to buy an amplifier and I'm only going to replace the front speakers. I mainly listen to electronic and house music and am looking to spend no more than $140 on the pair of speakers.

Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks in advance

:) :facejump:

Edit: I may replace the rear speakers if that would be a better option than buying a subwoofer, my was unit has a feature that allows a subwoofer to be connected in 2 ohm mode instead of the rear speakers.

I'm pretty sure you need 6.5" diameter speakers and there is also some mods required to get them to fit. Have a search through past threads, there is plenty of info on here

If you're definitely not going an amp, then you should get a decent set of speakers for that coin. Personally i'd wait until jbhifi has a 30% off sale again (they seem to be every 2nd month lately!) and get something even better, however something like these would go well off a stock headunit:

I would definitely go splits for electronic/house music, i find out louder volumes the vocals get distorted too much otherwise.

Do you have stock rear speakers at the moment? I would go 6x9's and just LPF them as bass speakers, but not on stock 6x9's.

Morel Maximo 6 get my vote for the Entry level Split... Finding a shop to demo them is the problem...

I've got stock front and rear speakers and I'm getting my new head unit (Pioneer DEH-155MPG) installed over the next 2 weeks. What do you mean by LPF them? I'm a newbie when it comes to car audio, not headphones though :-P.

HPF = high pass filter
LPF = low pass filter

Basically you want to HPF you're mid-high range so it only plays frequencies above a certain frequency, and subs/rears you can run LPF so they only play below a certain frequency. The cut off is usually around the 80-160khz mark.

I'm not sure for a headunit amp that'll make much of a difference, you might actually get better sound just running the 4 speakers off all frequencies.
My advice would be to visit an audio shop and demo some of these speakers (jb hifi is good for this) to get an idea of how they sound. I've personally found sony xplod gear to run really well off head unit amps, good bang for buck.

Thanks M4DDOG for the advice, I'll head to JB over the next few days and demo some of the stuff there. Even before I posted this thread I was leaning towards Sony Xplod gear.

Thanks again for your help I really appreciate it

I know a guy who's going to be selling a set of Vibe Black Air Splits with MTX Crossovers and Vibe tweeters soon.. ;)

If looking for new.. The Morel's are a great choice.. I've heard em in a Hilux from a basic JVC deck and they blew me away with their sound quality!

Where can you buy the morels from? Is there much modification required to fit the speakers (not the tweeters) in a tj?

FHRX studios stock Morel gear, probably a few other places as well. FHRX offer free postage Aus wide.

Thanks for that. Already on to Marty and waiting for a package price to come back on some other stuff we talked about. Appreciate your reply
