Hi just curious on other peoples setups in regards to suspension, also how it rides
I'm running stock springs and shocks, white line rear sway bar (hard setting) new nolathane bushes on front sway bar (23mm) I found this handles like it's lowered but without the harsh ride. Very good compromise.
It handles extremely well now and trying to decide if it's worth getting lowered as well?
Anyone else running lowered springs with the white line rear bar?
How's your ride comfort?

When I had my old TJ VR-X, swapping the stock springs/shocks for King Low springs and KYB shocks made a dramatic improvement in handling. I thought the King springs were a little on the soft side considering their height, but otherwise ride comfort was pretty decent. Obviously personal tastes regarding ride comfort vary, but I never had a passenger who complained or commented about the ride.

I had a corolla years ago on king lows and Monroe comfort shocks and it was pretty supple. Never too harsh, once it leaned in you could throw it around. My magna now has almost no body roll whatsoever. I was a bit cautious at first felt a bit edgy, but I'm getting used to it now... Kinda feels like I'm driving a go kart.....

The thing to keep in mind is that stiffening the springs will have a somewhat "double effect" in the ride quality as it will get stiffer from the actual springs, and it will also get stiffer due to the aftermarket swaybars.
On a previous car I had coilovers and the ride was acceptably stiff, but once I fitted swaybars (also whiteline) it became really stiff. I think the swaybars alone, or the coilovers alone would have been acceptable, but combined together the ride suffered a great deal.
If you just installed the swaybar, why not get used to it and enjoy it as is for a while, and then in the future if you feel you can lose more ride quality or need better handling then upgrade it in due time?

I don't think I want to lose ride quality, not for my daily driver, I read somewhere, I'm sure it was Gran turismo 5. In the help section of the suspension setup. The stiffer your spring rate the softer your sway bars should be and visa versa. Wasn't sure if this was true or not. Thanks for answering spetz just what I was after...
ATM the handling is sufficient for road use. I'm very surprised at the level of handling you get for the money... Also considering I got the white line bar 2nd hand...
I planned on waiting a while before doing anything else, once I've done one mod I immediately start thinking what to do next....

What size wheels are on your car?
I am also wanting a rear swaybar (likely OEM though from a Sports model) and wondering if the grip will ever be ok on the stock 16s

After a good set of tyres a rear bar should be your first suspension mod for a Magna in my humble opinion. The stocko 18mm rear bar is almost just a token gesture compared to 22mm. More so for getting the nose of the car to go around corners.
My GTVi (RIP) was on lowered springs, KYB shocks and a whiteline rear bar. With the bar on its hardest setting and in loose gravel, or wet road, the rear was occasionally uncompliant so watch out for that.
I have Coilovers on an AWD with a 22mm rear bar. At low ride heights this combination would loosen the rear in the wet... a LOT. I've sinced raised the ride height and the car does exactly as its told in the wet or dry more predictably and does it with a lot less effort at the steering wheel.
On the same AWD I had kings lows/KYB and a 22mm rear bar and found the same thing - tailly. Actually, I believe the difference was that the AWD system had to work much harder. I remember this one corner - in the wet - where the stock suspension/bar would get the car around the corner without any fuss, in a good smooth arc and without you feeling the diff's earning their money... huge body roll though and understeer at corner entry. Same corner Kings/KYB/22mm rear bar and the arc was abbreviated with the AWD system trying to keep the car inside its arc. Same corner again, low ride height/coilovers/22mm rear bar and the AWD system could barely keep the car in order - that rear would step riiiiight out on some attempts. I tried all manner of height adjustments, spring rates, rebound and preload settings before getting to where I'm at now where the car behaves the same way regardless of wet or dry conditions - predictable.
How does it ride? Terribly harsh. You feel every bump, ripple, pebble and chip wrapper thats on the road. I tolerate it, but I my spine keeps grumbling at me after long drives.

I've got 16inch verada mags with 215/60 cheap tyres. I find grip to be lacking a little with tire pressures at 29/26psi which is what mitsubishi specifies and what I normally run. Changed it to 38/35psi and grip has improve dramatically.... Tightened up the turn in, and my fuel economy should improve slightly. The front tyres squeal a little initially on turn in but once they settle it just turns. Do You put good tyres on spetz?

Skapper it sounds like you have had a lot of fun playing around with your suspension, I've read people say the rear steps out in the wet on hard sway bar setting, I tend to slow down in the wet especially fwd.
I don't like the sound of feeling every chip Wrapper. Did you every take your gtvi to the track?

No never tracked the GTVi. I'd change the rear bar setting most times the weather changed though... change my tyre pressures to if it were raining also. Its not that I was blasting around everywhere, I just liked the car to respond sharply when asked.
The AWD, and suspension changes, has been a lot of fun - learning experience. Lots of books, measuring and modelling the suspension geometry and all that time adjusting things after each test drive.

I noticed that on the 29/26psi setting the front tires would feel like jelly.
I think I use 34/30 at the moment and it feels much better though obviously rides worse.
I've not changed tires since buying the car and they are Bridgestone ER30s (OEM if I am not mistaken).
They don't have too much life left now and I am pondering whether to get some 380GT wheels or just replace the tires

I generally buy 2nd hand tyres and rims, the 5 verada rims I have now came with plenty of tread for $120. My way of recycling. Plus I'm a tightass, personally I'd rather spend my hard earned cash on food and holidays..... Mmmmmmm food....
What size rims are on the 380gt?

Yeah food is pretty good :)
They are 17X7 and their OEM tire size is 215/55/17 though when the time to change tires would come I would consider 225/50/17.
They are a really nice looking rim though, and don't have that horrible aftermarket look
