Hey all,

I live in Perth, WA. I used to have a 1989 TN Magna 5 spd, which I bought for $500 a year ago. It wasn't in the greatest condition body wise when I bought it, but after some time and money, I got it looking to an alright standard :) I had huge plans for it, until I sold it (very regretful).

Now, I'm on the hunt for another first gen Magna, MUST be a 5 speed manual, and preferablly with WA rego, and in at least ok mechanical condition, but willing to negotiate based on price. I don't want to spend too much to obtain one as I will be spending a fare bit on doing it up :)

Please contact me if you can help me out :) here are my some pics of my old Magna if you wanna see what I did to it :)

I did the following:

- 3" inch cannon muffler
- Fixed all rust
- Full respray
- Fusion subwoofer + Sony Stereo and speakers
- Spoofed up the interior a bit
- Sports black/red hubcaps

what is your budget

few days searching and only come up with automatics mostly sedans all at dealers in perth /wa .... no private sellers
problem is they want $1000 even for an unregisterd one ..... pushing to around $2000 reg safty cert etc warrenty

also looked at wreckers 1st gen parts are scarce in perth

they must be crushing them

Manuals are becoming scarce in all states. I guess Mitsubishi sold more autos than manuals. The TP auto is not bad as it is fairly robust and has dual modes, power and economy.

The only decent 1st gen. that I can see in WA is an auto on Gumtree for $1,490 at a dealer in Wangara. Condition looks fairly good and it is an executive with efi. It is registered but doesn't say when to. Advertised prices, of course, are only asking priices. If you offered $1,000 cash, you'd probably come away with it. Executives have power steer, air cond and power mirrors as standard.

When looking for mine in NSW, I found most registered 1st gens. were at silly asking prices but dropped dramatically when they didn't sell.

Dealers need a profit margin, not worth their while with anything less than about $1.5 to 2K. You won't find a $500 first gen at a dealer.
Keep looking for private sales, or take regular looks in dealer back lots for a "just traded, as is" example.

hey guys,

I have also been keeping my eye on gumtree to make sure one pops up. Like you guys have said, they are getting very hard to find over here :/

I did see that one in Wangara for $1,490 but unfortunately it's an auto so I'd have to go through the manual conversion, though at this point that may be the only option.

I'm considering putting up an ad on gumtree seeing if I can track the people who I sold it to last year and they may let me buy it back haha :)

My budget is probably no more than $1000 max to buy the actual car, the work required afterwards I do not really have a budget on as I plan to keep it running for a long long time

My friends keep saying "why are you bothering? it's just a Magna". There's just something about the first gen Magna's that make them look so appealing to me! They are fun to drive, and they look awesome when done up :) mine had a carby engine, but I think it needed a good tune as it was an absolute fuel guzzler that was even after doing oil changes, fuel, air , and oil filter changes as well, but besides that it ran perfect
