Anyone have any recommendations for a new set of rubber? Ive got a good quote on Yokohama S Drives that I am leaning towards.
Also 215/55/17 is the recommended size however my cars had 235/55/17 on it since I bought it, and the johnny at the tire shop said the only reason would be to protect the rim from gutter rash ( hence the extra width)
Anyone with any insight would be most appreciated

asking tyre information is opening up a can of worms as people have different opinions on different tyres(i know from experience)
which model and wheels? factory 17x7 wheels run 225/50/17 on them but you can put 235/45/17 on there(and that 5mm of tread does make the difference comfort wise)

Bridgestone ER300's, Toyo Teo Plus, Michelin Primacy may all be worth a look. What's your budget?

John this is the 380 section not the Magna section. The OP already said he had 17" wheels so there's your question answered. And in any event, 235/45/17 is illegal to run on 380s as it is too small.

Shibby do you mean you are running 225/55/17 tyres? Because 235/55/17 is also very illegal, and I suspect would give you clearance issues. I run 225/55/17 as I reckon it fills up the guards a bit better - the factory 215/55/17s just look too small IMO.

I run Bridgestone Adrenaline RE002s. They come in both 215/55/17 and 225/55/17. I'm reasonably happy with them - decent grip wet and dry, pretty quiet for a performance tyre, wear well and reasonably priced. If you want a performance tyre I'd give them good consideration.

In my research I couldn't really find a better performance tyre to fit the OEM 380 wheels (without going to a 225/50/17 tyre). The S-Drives crossed my radar but I think they are performance / touring more than an outright performance tyre. Depends on where your priorities lie with a tyre.

I put Continental ContiComfort Contact 5 on my car it's quite good. I stuck with the original size of 215/55r17. I get plenty of grip tho.

I agree with Valdez.

The 225/55/17 fill up the guards better on stock rims, and are still a legal size.
They provide better gutter rash protection, and most importantly, my speedo now matches GPS derived speed EXACTLY.

Nothing annoyed me more than knowing 60k on my dash speedo was more like 57k on the original 215 factory tires.

Thanks everyone for the reply's, Valdez you are correct with 225 not 235, simple typo. I do a fair amount of highway km's so might go for something mildly comfortable that doesn't ride like a go-kart, cause lets be honest high performance tyres are a bit overkill on the 380

I run the Toyo Teo's on my VRX, in the 225 size this time for my second set. Fantastic tyres.

I am happy with the 225/50/17 Yoko S drives on my Ralliart. They give good grip at the expense of the kilometers you would get from a highway tyre. Cost around $275 ea.

I had the ER300 as OEM tires on a Mazda. Great when new but halfway through their life they became so rough and noisy that I thought something was wrong with the car and took it in for a warranty claim.

I suggest staying away from these.
The Toyo Teo Plus I've read great reviews on and at the moment they are my next planned tire

Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres are the ultimate performance tyre & generally is the pinnacle of what a performance tyre can do especially in the dry. They are expensive although I grabbed a brand new set on 225/45/18 for $1320. Check out www.tyrereviews.co.uk as they have the best layout for choosing a tyre.

In all honesty any decent brand specific SPIII fluid is safe to use if you can not get the genuine fluid, lets face it, Mitsubishi do not make fluids. Last I heard BP still makes it. We use genuine as the cost is not bad and we get 60l drums each time and we can get the fluid no worries plus we then know 100% what we are getting

On my second set of Toyo Teos (215/55), very happy with grip, durability and price.

I also run Bridgestone Adrenaline RE002s in 215/55/17.
They have the side wall protection which pops out a little for that extra protection, so for $194ea fitted & balanced, they were a bargain.
The grip is amazing compared to the standard ER33 Bridgestones but I guess the RE002s are a sports tyre.
If you want the extra width, you can also get the Bridgestone Adrenaline RE002s in 225/55/17, the largest you can go legally on the standard 7.0in wheels. (I think they're around $230ea) lol

THis is an easy one - good second hand Michelins (I use energy MXV8's - 215/155 17) on my 380 VRX. Just find a wrecker that specialises in late model Aurions and Camry's as they had these as standard fitment, you should be able to get a very young set of 4 for about $100 apiece.

They're a brilliant tyre - great in the wet or dry, superb under brakes and very quiet. Plus they're long wearing but I feel that this fact should be a requirement, just an added bonus. Yokies, nup, been there done that - wear out way too quick and go off pretty fast.

The Michelins last and stick really well to the end of their life. The reason I targeted these brands as donors is because the average late model Camry or Aurion is driven very sedately until is written off. The blokes on this forum raving about Conti's and Bridgestones - they're rubbish.

The Conti's are very sudden to give way and Bridgestones go off real fast. The car initially came fitted with P7's - just an absolute dog of a tyre - they almost put me into a lamppost as the front end ploughed straight on in the wet very suddenly, never buy these.
