Hi All
Could someone please give me the exact location of the knock sensor for this model..

There is a sort of a horizontal piece projecting from the inlet manifold located between the distributor and the end fuel injector...There is a sensor projecting vertically from this, with one spade terminal on it. A wire plugs into this and goes straight into the loom....Someone suggested that this was it ?

It appears that there is something else attached to the bottom of this projection (another sensor? Can't see it very well....Also there is a smaller hose (water?) coming straight out of this said projection..

Have checked out the sketchy sketches in the Mitsy workshop manual but I never have much luck deciphering them!
I have a led monitoring the diagnostics on the ECU....After a reset, it will be OK for a while and then it gives the continuous 3 long and one short flashes....So any suggestions welcome..

Thanks in Advance.... Maybe if we sort it's knockers..it will :D

on the four cylinder
the knock sensor is in the rear of the block not quite in the middle
below the inlet manifold and just below the head line

they dont usually fail check the wiring and connections
from it to the dissy
the fault may be coming form the dissy itself or its plug in connection

you may be able to see the wires coming from it from underneath

thats the problem ... dont think it has failed even at 300,000 km they still are good

cant get a clear picture of part or block where it is

it can be changed on a hoist but is is difficult to reach

Thanks matey,
I found it ,as said, down on the block between the 2nd and 3rd injectors. It has a cable from it that goes to a large 2 pin connector that is secured by a lug to a throttle body mounting bracket..
From there it plugs into a connector on the harness that connects the injectors etc back to the ECU..

Some tests showed poor connections in that 2 pin plug, so I adjusted and cleaned them up and a squirt of RP7.

So far so good with no more dreaded "31" fault codes from the ECU, touch wood!

Wouldn't really want to have to buy a new one, as they seem to ask about $100 for the mongrel things..
