Hi All,
I have a 1999 model magna that is currently using 13 litre's/100k
according to my calculations

Is this about right or is there something i should look at i have thought of replacing the plugs and doing all that kind of "General Maintenance" but i feel that it may be something more like a dickie O2 sensor

Any help would be greatly appreciated

if you do a search you'll find lots of info abt other ppls' fuel consumption figures. but yea yours sounds abt right. it ranges widely from abt 11L/100km to a whopping 16L/100km. my baby is doin abt mid-14'sL/100km cos i drive in 300-400m traffic lights stretches mostly. not good

Sounds about right, it all depends on your driving style and environment

Starting stopping all the time will increase fuel consumption
Heavier foot when accelerating will also increase consumption

Thanks heaps guys, I know a few people with the same model magna and they told me that it sounded too high so i thought i would ask..... after all no harm in asking is there.....

Just seemed odd to be able to watch the fuel gauge go down.... i geuss im just used to driving my Hilux where a full tank lasts me 1500 k's

I get about the same - 13L/100km give or take, according to my trip computer. I tried driving like a granny once but it only went down to about 12L/100km so I gave up on that idea and now I'm a hoon again lol

you can't compare a diesel to petrol. the diesel is always going to be much more efficient than a petrol. it's strange how the world still hasn't moved towards turbo-diesel engines. the general misconception out there still is that diesel is polluting and dirty... Not true anymore with current technology. in europe diesel engined cars actually sell as many as petrol engined ones... though, you have to give up revs for it. but then again, you are compensated with more torque

Man, you wanna talk about watching your fuel gauge go down ... everytime I give the thing a squirt i reckon it sucks back about a half a litre !!! ;)

Actually its not to bad. When I finally refill this tank I'll post my figures but so far it seems i have got 200km out of 1/3 a tank. So expecting around 500-600 a tank in city driving.

yeah i have a 99 model and used to consistently do 11.5 max 12.4l/100 km then the other day my mate took it for a "spirited" drive and returned around 13/100km. If you are smooth with the throttle and braking and stuff i reckon it should return around 11-12/100km if the car is in good condition

yeah i get between 11-12 city driving (manual)... but can easily increase that to 13+ with out to much drama! fwy driving you should be between 8-10L/100... again depending on hour you're driving!

Man, you wanna talk about watching your fuel gauge go down ... everytime I give the thing a squirt i reckon it sucks back about a half a litre !!! ;) but thats cause you've travelled about twice as far as most with each quirt!!! and felt every bit of too!!!

it's strange how the world still hasn't moved towards turbo-diesel engines. most of them have... we and the americans are lagging!!! (but we use diesel a lot more than the US). The Japs have tended more towards electrically powered vehicles though as it was cleaner and cheaper to implement than diesel....

we will catch up though, as of next year our diesel will be at a similar purity level to the Euro stuff, which means we get heaps of top notch diesels!!! (read BMW uk site: 218bhp 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel, producing 500Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm, Merc: E320Cdi Number of cylinders6Number of valves24Displacement [CC]3222Maximum Power [hp]204Maximum Torque [Nm/RPM]500/1800-2600 ) and there are others!

Well my VRX seems to make around 500kms for a tank and thats 50/50 city to highway. The trip computer usually averages around 11.5 - 12 depending on how hard im driving. Sometimes it can go to 15 when im really giving her hell.

I think my mods have decreased fuel economy slighty as Im getting 500 per tank as opposed to 550 but I know my ECU is still adjusting to the new induction and extractors. The extractors have definatly increased economy when cruising on the highway but decreased economy with stop start driving.

As for deisel, my mum is currently buying a new VW Golf. She's tossing up between the 2.0L petrol and 1.9L deisel. Anyway we took the deisel for a test drive and JESUS! 320nm from a 1.9, its like driving the magna! I like deisel lol

It's pretty funny when you consider that a 163kw V6 Magna with more weight uses as much as a 85kw TR GLX 4 cylinder. Makes me feel sick actually. -> 3rd Gen is coming :D

My stock VRX 01 Auto, does about 12.8L to 13.5L
probably 60city/40hwy, 14L+ is easy wth a heavy foot

The most i've ran the tank down is to 515km.
And after that I managed to pump 67Litres of fuel in :)

3 L Auto (with some mods)
8 L / 100 km on Freeeways - 110, aircon, 2 ppl, luggage and Cruise.
11-12 in the corners, as in City kinda driving.
Once I got RPW HiFlo TB and learned to feather it, consumption dropped some 10% in corner driving. Driving habit makes big diff.
