In a hypothetical situation, can a 5pd tiptronic gearbox be transplanted into a car that originally has only a 4spd normal auto? can it even be done? Cause i've heard that you have to change gearbox, ecu, dash and such... is there anything else? Is it even feasible/worth it/able to be done? :/

Thanks guys :)

That or more then a manual conversion as you need the Bem, Ecu, wiring loom and all components for the gearbox

Some more info about what model your car is for starters will assist and add to this the range as well, ie exec, altera, advance etc etc

I put a 5 speed auto in my KH Verada Xi with 4 speed normal auto.

I first converted my normal auto to tippy (wiring and ecu change only)

But for 5 speed,

ECU (which I changed because I was changing my engine to a 3.8)
If your car has TCL its a lot easier.
The gearbox - Half shaft and left driveshaft (from memory could also be the right one)
The gearbox mount (if it doesn't come with the box)
I fitted my old 4 speed torque converter to the 5 speed box,
and you need the engine wiring harness. The main one need changing (there is an extra solenoid wire that isn't in the diagrams. According to the diagrams the 4 speed tippy and 5 speed are the same electrically. This is wrong.

You also require a CrackaJnr. This bloke is an absolute champion and is necessary for any of these sorts of mods.

As I was upgrading the motor and the box at the same time, I found the extra gear and smoothness of the 5 speed (it is different) to be very very worthwhile. The car is much better to drive. The 5 speed in a 3.5 has a tendency to change into 5th around 55kph, and militantly stay in it. The 3.8 provides the torque needed to make sure that isn't at all a problem.

If I had to do it again, I would in a heartbeat. Hope this helps

Mike

Given he is in Vic I think that Qld would not be the direction to go, we have also done these on quite a few occasions and can also do these for cars with no tcl as well.

If the car is a TE or TF series and has cruise this will be an issue if the cruise needs to be kept and will add a lot to the job, if not then the job is pretty straight forward
