Exactly what is the speed that the magnas will do before speed limiter kicks in.
Ive read in book somwhere that the TF Advance does 180km/h or 160km/h or was i just dreaming.
And i dont want to find out on my own "Fear" of cops and how it will react.
Unlike my friend who pushed his VP commo to 210km/h still going, (note: no rear brakes, partially bald tyres only reason he didnt go higher i told him his $50 tryes dont do over 211km/h) though it didnt seem as fast whilst inside.
So feel free to tell all what your speed limiter is unless you somehow removed it.

In my TH found the limiter at 215 kmh lol
The ECU seems to drop spark and or fuel to at least one cylinder in the engine at this point. NOT a good feeling at that speed

stock my TE cut at around 218 (always use to use the cruze control at 210 when going up and down the highway) but yer, since the aftermarket ECU, ive been above 220.. but i got scared :bowrofl:
since the turbo it just gets there wayyy too quick for my liking!! :bowrofl:

TF .. no sign of the speed cut at 220kmh in fourth gear on the dyno (about 6700 rpm).

Tried my TH Solora while coming back from sydney and went up to 210k-215K but it was only for 10 seconds or less.
Its simply too scary to drive at that speed in a road car.

Ralliarts are set at 240 km/h but you must be brain dead to go that speed anyway!

Had the TH between 215 - 220. Not really sure as I was mainly looking at the road.

I had my ZX 12 up to 310 and still going. ( it has done 340 )
I soon slowed down when I realised how fast I was going !!!
That's way too fast for the road.

Either you're full of **** if you reckon you've done 340km/h on 2 wheels (more likely) or you are completely crazy (still likely) Either way I feel sorry for you :naughty:

:disgusted wheres axle?
why cars have speed limiters at 210,215,220,240 i don't know. what injury are you going to suffer at your cars absolute top speed that your not going to suffer at the limiter

Of course it was on 2 wheels, Theres not too many 4 wheels that will do that speed.
I used to be a little bit crazy, slowed down a lot now !!
My car, according to the book is limited to 240 and I don't intend to put it to the test......

man you guys sure drive fast.
When i had my old VB, the fastest that thing whent to was about 210.
BTW whats the point in having the speed limiter that high ? Is it to save peoples lives or the engine of the car ??
If its limited at that high that might as well not have one (unless its their to protect the engine lol)

Driving down to Melbourne from Sydney many years ago - along the wide, flat, double lane & seperated freeway just into Victoria - i took my old Camira an indicated 190km/h (its max).
The car felt stable, in control & not too scary. It was about 1:00am, no other cars around and perfectly safe - or so i thought.
A long sweeping bend came up (bloody quickly) and suddenly into view came a 4wd parked on the side of the road, people around it changing a flat tyre.
Nothing went wrong - but it seriously taught me and my 2 friends in the car a lesson.
At that speed i had passed it only a second or so after i had first seen it. My car took the bend ok but if someone had of been standing a bit too close to the road - or stepped out - or tripped backwards - or the 4wd was trying to pull away from the curb - or i panicked and didn't take the corner cleanly.....would have been at least one fatality for certain.
Also the G forces building as i took the sweeper meant that i don't think i could have tightened or changed my line very much through the corner without losing control if i had to react suddenly. And braking?.......forget about it.
I haven't tested the top speed of my Magna & never will - not on the road at least.
Don't mean to be a wet sponge. I know that many cars are stable at 200+k's and in a controlled environment is perfectly safe. But the road is not a controlled environment.
It's not worth losing your license for a few minutes fun anyway. Leave it till your in the Northern territory.....or Germany.

hmm is there anyway of shorting the speed limiter out? im curious..... could we short something out...has anyone done this except for the ppl with the after market ecu stuff that just stops the speed limiter....

Thats a scary scenario you just described there and very relevant. I think everyone should take note of this. Good Post!

Excellent write up magnafield!! i had a somewhat kind of experience like that. at 210km/hour (which is what i normally always use to travel on) i once on this dead flat part of the highway i new well... a car clearing around about 2km/ in front with a caravan (then you know he aint doing more then 100) and this roadtrain. yep, nothing abnormal... so i go to take the 'train, and yer, infront of that there's 3 caravans, and by the time i saw this that other van is getting within 1.3k's and yer, damn you cant stop and then you think you cant make it. THAT is scary! all you can do is pust the foot down harder and hope you clear three vans and that 60m truck! my heart was pounding as i could see that van comming towards me flash his lights - i turned mine on to let him no ive got no choice now. thank god i cleard the whole line + the truck and managed so within around 140m of the oncomming van!
they must of all thought i was a dick- but really, and this is what pisses me off. is those stupid caravans'... they travel in groups (noramlly cos one idiot is doing 70 and the other dont have the power/ common sense and or confidence) to overtake and yer, becomes a big backlog and creates problems like what i was in. now just imagine if i was only doing 140 once i passed the third trailer and noticed there are 3 other cars. bah! there would b no way i could pass.
altho i still travel at my speeds i do, it justs makes me think whats in front of that r.train.

Nope not any more. When mine went on the dyno, i had a circuit prepared using a PIC to sit in between the speed pulse sensor and the ECU, to clamp the pulse freq. at a preset point (just before the limiter engaged). That way you trick the ECU in to thinking your going slower than you really are :) I worked out the freq for about 180kmh, and preprogrammed the pic for that, I didn't think the limiter would be b4 180, i assumed it was at 190.
But the limiter never came in so ... never needed it. If it ever cuts out on a circuit then I will put the clamp in.
The bonus with the magnas is the speedo works off the speed sensor and not the ECU, so your speedo can still show the correct speed :) ...

For all the people wondering why the Magnas are limited to 210, it's becuase the speed rating on the factory fitted tyres is 210. It's not so much that above 210 you are in danger, anything past 140 and your in real danger

well if every one is saying it cuts out at 210 my TH 3.5L man, cut out at about 230-240 not really to sure i had a quick look at the speedo and it was still moving past 220, i backed off when my shift light come on at 6300rpm! VERY SCARY!!!!

6300RPM at 230/240??
My old TH used to sit comfortable at 210km/h at 5000RPM in 5th gear.
Ok - it was lowered, big wheels, better suspension and approx 200FWHP so it get their quick enough, but when i put in my RSM - I had the option to cut the limiter - but why would you?? I mean whats the difference between 210 and 240?? its all B/S crazy speeds.
ALso - I have a short vid of when my TH was stock of my driving while the vid displays the Speedo going from 0-210-0.
If it wasn't for the bend in the road - it would have been done in under a minute - but hey at night, the right hander snuck up on me A LOT quicker then expected!! and hey - we had to slow down, but we backed off to 180, and by that stage i was in the corner and commited, YOU DO NOT HAMMER THE BRAKES WHILE GOING AROUND A BEND, it is the first thing that will sping you out.
I got very drunk after that once we got home!!

Well i have a 3.5l KF verada and i had the speed limiter cutting in at 235km/h and my mate has a TE 3.0l exec manual and his also is limited at 235... at those speeds they start getting a bit "floaty" on the front end!! :D

im interested ive wound the ks up to 180, 3.OL feels like it doesn't have much more, (i don't do it on the highway, i have to drive 70km to get a good straight on them) and its dangerous, auto it is, bout 4-500m long straights, into them at 80km/h...so therefore im a bit sceptical that the manual could free up 35k's as i reckon i could get 200.
