Hi, Have just recently purchased a TJ 2001 Advance, 140.000Ks and when accelerating it seems to be harsh and noisy ( growl) as if some thing is touching , I have visually checked the mounts etc and all the exhaust as well.
I see on here the mention of the "Y" piece exhaust growl, could be that but seems harsher. all the exhaust is in great condition, new centre muffler and new rear muffler.
There is no engine rocking when loading it in gear stopped. also noticed when jacking under L/H side ( trans) the motor lifted about 20-25mm, but on the R/H side ( sump) only about 5-8mm.
Quiet as a mouse to drive untill you put the boot in, steady or fast.
Seems worse when it is cold, that's why I have been checking the exhaust.
The noise seems to be coming from up under the dash, I have not driven any others of Gen 3's to compare,
I had a TP Elite before and it was very quiet, is the Advance poorly ( less ) insulated , compared to the Elite,
Any suggestions ,
Thanks in "advance" Des.

I like the growl. lol
My TJ does it, my TL does, but my TP didn't, the 4 and 6 cylinder TSs didn't.

Think of it as "grunt" or "character" lol

Mine's definitely a growl, but I'd never call it harsh like something is touching. Can you replicate it while stationary, ie. with a bit of revving? Could be pretty much anything vibrating, best bet would be to take it to a trusted mechanic or a club meet to let other Magna owners have a listen.

Just thought I would up date this thread , after chasing the noise and harshness , I found on here a mention of similar conditions caused by loose belts, so I pulled the under shields/covers off, and adjusted them both , and it has solved my problem,
Happy as , Thanks to all again Cheers Des.
