hey guys
well this year the 200,000 km timing belt service will be due. i've never had a car that has needed this done and i'm not sure where's the best place to get this done.i also need to save up for this service as well.these are my choices:
1.Local mechanic
i can use my regular mechanc to do it. however i'm not sure if he has done one before or if he's confident doing it(i'd say they would do it).
2. work dealership
access to mitsu tools and mitsu service manuals to do the job and i know they have done heaps of these belt changes.but i also know which technicians are capable of mistakes.
or i could drive down to Mal at Mitsfix and get him to do it if possible, however that has some extra costs(e.g fuel, accomodation)
also what other parts are changed at the 200,000 km service. from research the water pump, tensioner
and cam/crank seals are also changed but is there anything else ive missed??
thanks

go local Mechanic, there is one around the corner from your work, tru blue automotive. they are really good.
ive had a mobile mechanic do mine once, before i knew how to do it. i pulled the car apart as much as possible to reduce the time it would take him, then i put the car back together

Just get it done at your work, you work for a Mitsubishi dealership so surely you can get a bit of a discount on parts and labour (use a VSP timing belt kit & water pump kit and genuine tensioner); also, the techs are less likely to stuff up if they know there will be certain comeback/rework for anything they may have done incorrectly.

The cam belt replacement isn't a "major service", it is in addition to that. You would know if it has been done, should be an entry in the service log book. No entry = hasn't been done.
Your log book will tell you what normal servicing is required at whatever km your car is at, but it won't cover the cam belt.
The cam belt should be done every 5 years or 100,000 km, whichever comes first.
The second belt change at 10 years or 200,000 km is when other things under the timing covers may need changing too.
