Just a reminder guys, this is posted in the 380 section, so posting up insurance details for your Magna/Verada isn't of much assistance to the OP :)

Asking for trouble saying that. lol

Most car owners add up the purchase price and running costs over the years and get rather upset when they find out an insurance company doesn't price their car highly.

There is always Shannons, or SGIC, and agreed value. But as no one has mentioned the premium or excess on their comp ins policies, it is hard to tell which are value for money.

EDIT: Insuring a 380 for $5.5K is probably a waste of money, wouldn't take much of an accident to cause enough damage for the insurance to write it off and pay out the $5.5K minus excess, you'd have to put in about $5K out of your own pocket to buy another. Of course comp ins buys you protection if you hit something expensive, but third party insurance will do that too, and it is cheaper.

I agree with Oggy, give Shannons a try.
A couple of years ago I looked into changing the insurer on my 2005 380 manual (with lots and lots of mods and improvements and about 120,000k on it at the time), and all except Shannons were not prepared to give me any more than $6,000 agreed value.
IIRC Shannons covered me for $8,500, their premiums were as good or better than the rest, the excess was quite low (no prangs or claims in 30 years) and they didn't quibble like the others about the number of greed camera tickets I had accumulated over the years.

They seem to be on par with coomodores of that year
Our local holden car yard has heaps of 05 and 06 VZ models $7-8k
Paid $22k for my 05 GT in 2009 still only has 88k
My mate got offered $4k trade in on 05 VZ against 1 yr old SS
Thats cars I guess

You're better off keeping cars going (to a point) then turning them over every few years. I know people who do novated leases. New car every 3 years. Say they don't notice the cost. Obviously they haven't done the maths. Most of these leases are costing them $700-800 a fortnight after taking into account pre-tax savings. My 380 costs me $55 a week to run with EVERYTHING. I only do 6000km a year though.

Point is the values of used cars are low but so are the running costs - vastly lower.

One claim but that lovely insurance payout helped buy this car. 04 V6 Camry was bought for 10, insured for 12 and they offered me 4k trade in a year before the ex wrote it off. So...high premiums but I got 2k and my money back for a car I'd had for 3 years and wasn't overly fond of anyways. I love insurance...

Piss that market value sh*t right off.
I find with 380s we get shafted for going market value (I think redbook is to blame).
You pretty much have to go agreed to be insured for any worth while amount.

I always ask for the maximum agreed value because the value drops every year depreciation and all that forgot to add costs me $96 a month 600 excess over 25 drivers only includes 2 free windscreens and 2 weeks hire car

Yeah, agreed's the go - I can pick up an identical spec Series 3 GT to my own for around $8K - 9K, my agreed's $2K more than that.
