Hi guys,

I am a new member. I was browsing the net for some advice and found this forum.

I have a 1998 Magna Advance with a LPG tank in the boot. I was having problems opening the boot using my keys (I was able to open it using the button in the glovebox) and decided to bring out my toolbox & try to fix it. Not sure why but key wouldn't turn even after the key went it completely. I tried pushing the white lever on the lock (Lock/Unlock) and tried to understand where the problem was. After a while, I decided to dismantled the lock to have a close look. Halfway done, I had to go up to my apartment and get more tools and I stupidly place all my tools into the boot and close it. After coming down from my apartment, I tried opening the boot with the button in the glovebox but I could not (I can hear the sound of the mechanism working). Then it struck my mind that I could have left the white lever in the 'Lock' position. Having the LPG tank is also blocking access from the rear seat.

Now I am in a situation where I cannot open my boot with keys or with the button. I am wondering if you have got any tips/tricks no any alternative way I can open up my boot apart from cutting a hole and trying to reach it. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Lots of spray lube into the key hole, work the key in and out a few times. Press down on the bootlid while turning the key. If you have a second key try that as well.
Locks get stiff with age, no need to dismantle anything, silicone lube once in a while on the key/down the keyhole works to keep it all working smoothly.

Hi Madmax,

Thanks for the reply. The problem is the whole key lock is half dismantled and even if I can turn the key now, I don't think I can open the boot. The only thing I think I need to do now is to find a way to flick the white latch to 'Unlock' and then open it using the button in the glove box. Is there any way I can do that from outside?

Yep. Drill a hole where you estimate the latch is, and flick it with a screwdriver.
