HI Guys
Is there anyone out there who has had the "380 Intermitternt Wont Start " syndrome. Well folks, Mitsubishi Australia is aware of the issue that stems from a factory fault - the electrical wiring (including the harness) between the fuse box and the fuel pump fries itself (current goes way up due to harness arching out) and creates an Intermitternt open circuit, thus shutting off power to the fuel pump, thus the car will not start.
I actually had an RACV guy attend one wont start instance (that led to being taken advantage of by mechanics/auto elecs to $1500) and four months later, the same thing happened, I called the RACV and got the same roadside RACV guy. THis time, he knew what to look for. He pulled the back seat out straight away and inspected the electrical harness of the fuel pump. It was blackened by arching out. So I had a decision to make. I rang a southern suburbs Mitsubishi and spoke to possibly the dumbest and most unhelpful spare parts person you can imagine, she sounded like she was doing her nails whilst taking my query.
So I then rang Brighton Mitsubishi and spoke to the very professional and assured service manager. He asked that his service guys could look at it. So days later - it was there in the service bay getting the problem investigated. My missus had shot off a very stern email to Mitsubishi Australia's PR/customer relations department spelling out her displeasure at the issue and then speculating about fuel pumps and electrical arching and the baby seat that sits on top of the location of these in the car. The missus had dug out a service bulletin off the internet that was actually published by the factory and had cut and pasted this into the email to MMA. She then finished by requesting that this be done as a factory fix, so we wouldn't have to pay, as the job would cost in excess of $1000 to pull most of the interior out, replace the fuel pump, harness and the wiring to the fuse box.
The Brighton Mitsubishi then called me and told me that they had received communication from this PR/customer relations department and would respond to address the issue. The factory wanted a report from the dealer. So they did one and sent it in. The MMA PR lady then called me on my mobile to make sure that I was aware that they were looking into the warranty claim and she would be getting back to me. It this point, I was just impressed how this organisation had dealt with the issue. Everything was smooth and straightforward. The Brighton service manager had managed my expectations from the start of the process saying that it wasn't likely MMA would cover the costs of the fix, but they would look into it and that there was a chance my claim would be successful.
Well, the following Monday, the dealer service manger called me with great news. MMA had reviewed the report and decided to pay for the fix and Brighton Mitsubishi would proceed to do the job at no cost to me. I was speechless and utterly delighted. I cannot recommend this organisation enough. They were measured, professional, communicative and efficient throughout. Magnificent MMA and excellent Brighton Mitsubishi.
