You mean Radiator? You need a radiator for your amp to help with the water cooling, because if your amp over heats it can severley damage your sub and what ever else is connected to it. You can get them at autobarn for about 75 bucks.

Good Luck mate

rad?

oh you mean rad counter.... used for counting the number of times ppl say "rad" when a car drives past with LED window washers.

then there's the sick counter..... used for counting the number of times ppl say "sick" when a car drives past with strobe lights/neons. but theres an upgrade to that..... the 'fully sick counter'....... :D and lets not forget the 'fully sick maaate' version

A rad is actually a type of capacitor arrangement. Ive never seen one in Aus but over in the US they are used a bit in SQ setups. Basically it is a set of large capacitors arranged in a box that has 2 inputs and and 2 outputs, one input and output is for the +ve voltage going to the amp and the other set is for the -ve of the amp. The capacitors on the +ve lead steady the input voltage and give the amp plenty of power on sudden harsh bass, and the capacitors on the -ve lead smooth out the voltage to the chassis, which somehow helps the amp recieve a smooth constant voltage. Im not sure why theyre called a rad, maybe its because theyre designed to bolt onto the top of the amp and have a large heatsink and fan built into them to dissipate the heat they and the amp generate, much like a radiator I spose.

A rad can only be used on one amp at a time, and they are pretty expensive as the +ve capacitors add up to about 1.5fd and the -ve to about 1fd on a smaller unit, they are also pretty bulky. Im not sure where you could get one in Australia but then again I dont know why anyone just listening to music would really need one, its not like your going to be operating at full sine-wave and drawing full power....thats enough.

Please note that everything mentioned above is not true, i am full of it, very bored and I have no idea what a 'rad' is. I think it refers to the radiator...but that has nothing to do with audio. Who knows? Where or who told you about a rad? I think theyre having you on.:P

RAD / Realtime Analyzer DSS - Record and analyze impulse response data and measurement conditions. A time change of sound can be analyzed in detail at a high temporal resolution. Using RAD, various sound qualities such as loudness, total quality, pitch and the movement of source can be analyzed

Sounds good, but why would you really need one? What would you do with that data?

~∞:(StockTE:(∞~, when you say Rad you're not referring to a passive radiator for your enclosure are you champ?

Just in case you are, passive radiators (ie they don't have active power) are motorless subs (ie just the cone assembly) that live on the enclosure and respond to internal pressure within the enclosure from the active sub(s). They produce reinforcing emissions to extend the output of the lower frequencies below the resonance point of the active woofer. They may look like sub drivers but they lack an active motor assembly. :D
