View Full Version : Installing a Verada centre clock in a TJ II
Hey guys,
I've seen a few threads on how to install the centre clock into TH/ TJ I. Although pulling apart my TJ II this morning i realised the plug is completely different. Could installing it be as easy as wiring the plug that will fits into the clock to the correct colour wires or would it requite a loom swap?

pretty sure the easiest way to do it is to get the upper loom form a KJ2 Verada....
Hi all, I have a few things to sell.
KJ S2 Verada Blackout cluster (with @191,000 kms) plus centre clock and full under dash wiring harness. $200 for the lot.
Only selling as I've decided not to modify my car.

Mike is right. Loom swap. I have tried this a couple of times now, and the diagrams for it are not entirely accurate. So you will be able to install the plug, and the wires but the clock won't adjust unless you swap the loom. There seems to be an extra earth connection somewhere it there after the cluster. (This is for a KJ2 clock in a TJ2)

maggie, I've been considering doing the same mod to my TJII Sports. I've heard about replacing the upper loom, but the prospect seems rather daunting. Does it involve pulling out your dash board or is this a relatively simple job?

Thanks rodpolky, but if it is that involved (as in pulling out dash) I don't think it is worth it just to gain a clock. I'm putting in a 2 DIN stereo with SatNav. I will have to live with that clock.

Already have the same clock,
Thought it might just be a plug and play like TH/ TJ I
Not to worry..

You can get around the loom change if you are prepared to run some custom wiring and an extra switch to change the time. I have done this with a centre clock/trip computer, the additional wiring doesn't look as neat, but it still works
Quick question.
Would I be able to use a upper loom from a KH + KH cluster to get clock? (as well as cluster)
Or would that not plug into my TJ II?

plugs are different between KH/KJ1 and the KJ2,so ,no ,i dont think it will fit.

Maggie,
Is that clock above out of a KJ2? (I have a TJ2)
Looks nice, don't know why they would not have had them standard across the range.
Seems crazy (and a lot of work) to pull the dash board out and change a loom, just to get a clock.

No. As rodpolky mentioned earlier, I have the same clock although since I have a KJ2 it was a plug and play straight swap, luckily, as I feel you on not wanting to pull the dash for a clock. That one pictured is out of a Japanese Diamante, also fitted to our KE Veradas from the Diamante parts bin but after that Mitsubishi started making an unfortunately inferior clock. And a for most of the range, Magnas never got clocks at all. Other Veradas got a 24 hour one which was dimmer and fully backlit, I don't have a good photo but it looks basically the same as the climate control screen, by design no doubt, but it didn't look as good. The actual one matches the climate better, but the Diamante one matches the instrument cluster better. IMO.
Funnily enough, the clock pictured has a windscreen washer low warning light even though no Australian third gen ever had the sensors for it, not even the KE.

Replacing the upper dash loom is not a dash out job, just a bit fiddly with the cluster and centre consoles out.
Yes, the 12hour jdm LCD clock is by far the coolest. If I were you I would upgrade to a KJS2 blackout cluster, upper loom and clock and then when one comes up get the jdm clock.

Any KE verada has the same clock.

Yep, this is how I got mine, U Pull It. Agreed with Oscar on the KJ2 cluster, although as it's plug and play for that loom, I'd recommend the KL/W instead. Then you will end up with this clock:

And with this cluster:

Also, here is a shitty photo of what the standard KJ2 and other model clocks looks like, this one does not have AM/PM, just 24 hour.

Pickles thanks. I am kind of getting used to my Sports instrument panel, but have never really loved it. The black panel does look better, particularly when paired with that clock.
I might make it a mission to get my hands on one of those clocks with the AM / PM.
I wonder of MitsFix can fix me up with the appropriate loom. I have a feeling he may be able to help me out :woot:

Jakeys. I see what you mean, the AM / PM clock looks so much better, particularly with that instrument panel.
Is it possible to have the kilometers professionally adjusted on the new instrument panel to keep everything legal and legitimate. I'd hate to be accused of putting a dial in my car with less kilometers for the wrong reasons.

Any KE verada has the same clock.
Cool, that will make it easier.
I think this has become a mission :hmm:
Now to get my hands on an upper dash loom out of a KJ2 Verada, KE clock and black out instrument panel out of a ???. I have a 5 speed, so it needs to be out of something also with 5 speed.
MitFix where are you???? :ninja: :woot:

KJ 2 is the only model that will have the cluster you require (or a KL/W)

Thanks mcs_xi. I just fired an email off to an instrument place inquiring about having the speedo KMs adjusted to match my own car. I hope to hear back from them tomorrow or soon. Someone from the forum has already PMed me with an offer of a cluster from a KJ2. :hmm:
...but it has a lot more KMs then my vehicle, so I'd need that adjusted.
Has anyone had it done before and know what it cost roughly? :ninja:

There is a bloke on here who used the pins and a computer fan to simulate the speed signal to get the klms changed. Look into that. If your car has less klm, then leave the computer fan going until the cluster goes around the clock back to where your klms are.

Pins and a computer fan......interesting. I also build computers for fun, so maybe this is right up my ally. Thanks :ninja:
I'll have to do a search for the thread later (I need to get ready for night shift right now - maybe I'll do a search from work later).

Pickles did this, however I think it's slow enough that going the whole way around isn't feasible?
