View Full Version : Track-day brake pads - Brembo suck - what are the good ones?

So I was at a track day at Sandown today in the 'Rada, and the new Brembo front brake pads wore down to metal in 22 laps...

I wouldn't care so much except that on Friday I installed 4 new slotted/dimpled rotors, Brembo track-day pads front and rear, and new brake fluid.

Why did I choose Brembo? Because it was Friday and that's all my stockist had on hand... and they did work well, but it was pretty obvious after the first heat (8 laps, max speed 170km/h) they were not holding up well... On my previous Mercedes and Mazda track cars I've used QFM Comp 3, but these were out of stock.

What are people using for track days? Oh, and I don't want to upgrade the rotors/callipers, I just want to get a decent day's use out of the pads. Today was especially annoying because there were so few entrants (24) meaning loads of track time.. I could have easily completed 80 laps today - the rest of the car was running perfectly.

Cheers,

Ian.

Dunno if they are available for the rada, but I have found the ferodo DS2500 to work well as a dual purpose pad.
They make a lot of dust however, and they will eat out a set of cast rotors in about 4 pad changes if pushed hard constantly.

Slotted rotors will chew pads up, as the slots are designed to face the pad every time it is applied to the disk.

Have just changed my front rotors for dimpled and slotted, (today!) and ebc black stuff pads($113 a set for front rotors, $72 for pads)...am dismayed to learn that slotted rotors will eat my pads...oh well !

Guy where I bought rotors and pads (onautos.com.au) stated he sells a lot of EBC "red stuff" pads for track days etc...they are expensive though ($290 for fronts) and I must say I have absolutely no clue how they will wear in your situation.....but you may wish to ask around your track day friends re the brand and your situation.

Ill tell you about mine in about 50-60,000 ks...I do mostly highway work.
PS...I have absolutely NO connection to any company / brand name / etc detailed in my post.
