Ok, So the Wagon is slowly approaching the 200k mark and with that i am wanting to fix a few things up with the engine and get her running a tad better.
So besides the Timing Belt Kit Could you all please provide me with other things that should be looked at, Changed, Modded etc etc.
Cheers

One option is to spend a few extra $$ while you are doing the timing belt, and just get a 6g75 engine.
It will be a blast with the 3.0L box you have on.
If you purchase it from the right supplier the engine should come with the timing belt and plugs already done! Giving you a low KM engine with excellent power.
That's what I would recommend, anyway!

Other things worth checking are: ("checking" as in, are they still ok or do they need changing, not just changing stuff just because you can. lol)
- drive shaft boots, steering rack boots.
- exhaust system for rust, splits, cracks etc.
- engine rubber hoses.
- suspension.
- normal servicing - spark plugs, rocker cover gaskets, tube seals, ancillary belts, air filter, oil/oil filter.
A few people will tell you "just drop a 3.8L engine in, only cost a few extra $$ more": I personally don't subscribe to that idea, I have a problem with the use of the words "few extra". lol
At 200,000 km the 3.5L still has a lot of life left in it, and where are you going to find this mythical and cheap low km 3.8L engine with new plugs and belt?
Not cheap at $1,200 from this guy:

Or $1500 + $250 shipping to SA, 79,000 km from

Your choice, though. lol

So Max, are you in the habit now of putting down sponsors as well ??????
Now while I agree with you on one point, that by the time you bolt in a 6G75 to a Magna you are looking at double that of the 200k service cost to say that $1200 for a 6G75 is not cheap and then refer to me as "this guy" is just plain ignorant. The going rate for a 6G75 is usually more than than the one I have advertised and general drive in drive out for a conversion is around the $2500 by the time you do belt, plugs, conversion to the motor and then bolt it all in and add oil, coolant, filters, trans fluid etc etc. So yes, if someone wants more power the 75 is the way to go, if someone is just up for a 200k service AND are happy with the car as it is you leave the 74 in the car
Either way, there is a far better way to state what you did

Sorry. Didn't see that my first link pointed at our famous forum sponsor. Did those ebay lookups in a bit of a rush!
((Personally, I'd like a 3.8L engine, as long as the rest of the car can be bought with it.))

Yes yes maximoo. I'm well aware it's more than "just a few $$", but in the scheme of modifying a car it's the best opportunity to get a good 'bang for your buck' power ugrade. And I know the owner may or may not be after a power upgrade so I suggested it be done along with the major service.
Ernie, if I remember correctly the timing belt service was done on time on your car at 100k.. this means that it's due at 200k (with normal servicing, of course) aswell as checking for water pump leakage and timing belt tensioner wear. The timing belt tensioner can cause loud irritating noises when the car is started cold on cold mornings. My fathers sportswagon does it and is coming up to 200k so it will be done on it aswell to save labour costs.

I replaced both the tensioner and water pump in my TJ at its 200k service, more as a preventative measure than anything else.

Thanks guys, TBH i just dont have the cash to go and get a 6G75. (as much as i would like to). My father in Law owns a mechanical/exhaust workshop and thus i can get all parts at trade price plus i dont have to pay labour. If i was to do anything i would like to perhaps put a set of 380 cams in. (if i can find some for the right price).
My current 6G74 runs damn smooth still, with a slight starting issue at the moment. So i see no point in swapping it out for a newer engine untill i have to.
