Hi.
I have just installed a Kenwood head unit into my TL wagon and the head unit surround is too big to fit in the fascia.
Is there a way I can fix this up without resorting to chopping up one or the other or both?

Can you mount it back a bit, moving the mounting screws forward on the side of the player a bit more...
So it sits a bit behind the Face of the console...

My pioneer unit has a removable face shroud. I would imagine yours should as well? see if there's little plastic tabs which you can push in and pry it off

Both Magna's I've owned (TN, TJ) had the same problem, the mounting holes are in less than ideal positions. The only 'fix' I found (short of using power tools) was to set the unit back further and just leave the fascia trim off (most are removable, including the Kenwood in my current car). Perhaps not the prettiest look but not too unpleasant.

I was lucky, my kenwood came with 2 surrounds, so I was happy to trim one.

I just used a stanley knife and carefully removed material from the inside until it fit - it now sits on there but doesn't clip on too securely, so if I miss a button and push the surround, it unclips from that edge, but is otherwise better than no surround.

I am pretty sure I elongated the holes in the mounting bracket so I could position the headunit forward or backward for a better fit. A little forward worked best for me because I was damn well going to make use of that surround !! :)

my pioneer unit's surround was a bogus fit so i just removed it. a bevelled edge around the head unit's face isn't overly important for many people and it's not a critical feature that prevents use if you don't have it on there, so maybe you could just leave it off?

Actually, One of those units didn't fit properly, I raided a spear parts bin at a Autobarn workshop for the JVC I think it was, next step was cutting my own from plastic, black or painted.
After seeing all the cars with the H/units poking out, the flush fits appeal to me a lot more...

Some of those manufacturer trims have raised edges and are a real pain to fit, try the place you bought it from, or try and find something cheaper than this. Yeah it came with a removable fascia, which is they way it is currently mounted. I don't want to go modifying things as I will chuck the OEM unit back in when we upgrade in the future. I may look at getting a spare fascia and having a crack at trimming that to suit.
