Hi guys to get more feedback i decided to start a new thread to explain the troubles i am experiencing with my transmission, i have read through the numerous posts although some seem to have similar symptoms as mine i thought i would describe exactly what is happening with mine, so i can get the most accurate responses..
Ok so the car is a 2002 TJ magna with 4sp auto box, for about a month or so when the car was driveable, it was slipping when trying to change gears, it was most noticable when you come to a complete stop and then proceed to take off again, it would rev for about a second or 2 before engaging into gear. As the time went on it got a little worse, sometimes would drive faultlessly, other times it would not engage for quite a while..
Another symptom i noticed was that sometimes there would be noise coming from the transmission, best i can describe the sound is almost like when you have bad / warped discs on your brakes and they are rubbing whilst you drive, this noise would happen only sometimes, and mainly on start-up or when reversing out the driveway, the noise usually disappeared once you would be driving for a while..
One day, i was driving along and the car lost all gears, no drive at all. Pulled over had a quick inspection and noticed that i had left a trail of transmission oil behind me. Towed the car home and on further inspection i filled the transmission up with some oil, then degreased the transmission so its easier to see where the leak is coming from, i started the car and after about a minute there was a constant stream of fluid leaking out from the area where the transmission is attached to the engine.
With these symptoms in mind i was just wondering if anybody has some insight as to what could have caused this.
Let me just add, there are no obvious cracks or damage to the transmission, i have removed the transmission from the car and was thinking of buying a new seal kit to replace the seals in the general area of the leak, but just wanted to get some feedback to see if i am heading in the right direction, or if there is a good possibility its something more serious...
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated..
Cheers,
Laz.
