My 2005 Verada is due (or overdue if we're counting years) for its 100k timing belt replacement. Is it necessary to get anything else to do with the belt replaced at the same time, or can it wait until the next time the belt replacement is due?

Also can anyone recommend a place in Perth, preferably NOR (I'm in Kingsley) that are experienced and do a professional job with belt replacements on these cars?

Thanks

Yep, a bit overdue. By 4 years. Never mind.

What else needs replacing will be revealed when you or a mechanic open it up. Usually just the belt needs doing at 100K Km, but you never know until it is opened up. I did a TJ belt at 111,600 km and all it needed was the belt, if that is anything to go by.
Somebody local needs to suggest a competent mechanic.

At 9 years old, the tensioner should also be replaced along with the water pump. May as well do them as they probably wont last until the next belt is due.

do your crank and cam seals at the same time you change the belt (this goes for any car, not just magnas)
Seals are cheap, paying labour to pull it all down again to fix an oil leak 20,000kms later is a pain in the ass.

Two schools of thought:

Replace everything under the cover just in case.

OR

If it isn't broke, don't replace it.

Your choice. Or rather, the mechanic who does the job if you are not into DIY.

WooHoo!

I just did a double post! (accidentally)

Haven't done that in years! lol

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll probably just get it done at a dealer. Been quoted $529 and hopefully they've had enough practice by now to get it right.

That is really really cheap for an entire V6 timing belt job- particularly if they are supplying parts too. When I did mine I needed a replacement top engine mount as well as the timing belt and even though I did the belt at 92k km I was surprised by the poor state of the belt that came off the engine.

Okay, I had it done by a dealer for the price mentioned above. The old belt actually looked pretty good. No obvious cracking or excessive wear but I know you can't tell 100% by looking at it. Frankly I'm amazed these belts can last for so long. The only thing that concerns me a little is that the exhaust sounds louder to me than it did before, but it could be my imagination like when I thought there was more wind noise after I had my windscreen replaced.
