Ive been looking at getting some 18" VRX Lancer wheels that a lot of people on here have. Ive done some searching on tyre's options and just wanting to get some confirmation. The wheels im looking at dont have tyres atm.

i was looking at 235/40 R18 95W. would this size tyre work well or should i be looking at other sizes?

Better off with either 225/45R18 or 235/45R18 tyres. PM Murph03 and he will help you out. He works at Beaus at Edwardstown.

It's only a narrow rim (7" wide). I wouldn't run a 235 tyre. Like vlad said I would look at 225/45/18.

235's are not legal on a 7" rim. In saying that the price difference between the 235 and 225 is huge so I personally would go the 235 as I put on jakeys car

225s aren't that badly priced if one shops around. I paid 155 a corner for my Federal Formoza FD2s, I'd sooner pay a little more for a legal set than settle for a set that could potentially jeopardise my insurance coverage and liability in an accident.

Ultimately, the limited and more expensive tyre is the trade-off when running an 18x7" rim.

yea definitely going to stick with the safer option. not looking to get anything that could void insurance and or get defects.

I looked at the Lancer VRX rims too as I'm wanting to upgrade the stock rims on my TJ AWD. But I was put off by the relatively narrow 7" width. I know it's still wider than my skinny little stockies but checking out other Magnas and 'Radas on the forum and on the road, 18x8 seems to fill the guards up nicely, while also giving you a wider tyre option.

Yea I used to run 18x8 and loved the wider tyres. I'm still looking around but I'm also trying to keep with OEM options as the lancer VRX wheels look better than a lot of of wheels I've seen for sale ATM.

Mate,

If you ever get 18x8 rims, I have a set of four used 18" tyres for sale that you can have for free, as long as you come to my place to pick them up. I need them gone!
They are 245/45R18, so they will fill out a Magna wheel well in every direction, but as long as the car isn't lowered and the wheel offset is around the stock +46 they should fit OK.
