Ok, TS, 2.6l EFI, got around 365,000Km, had been serviced by the local Mitsu dealer most of it's life. Since aquiring it it has had an oil change and filter (20W50 HX3 Shell). What it does is rattle at idle VERY noticable, but dissapears if you hold it at a steady throttle opening. Has recently done an Adelaide (900K's) and a Melbourne (1200K's) trips, used a bit of oil but nothing excessive (less than my V6). Are the timing chains very noisy on these or is it more likely piston slop or something else. What wears on these at high milage?

can be done with engine in car ..not an easy job ..several hours work

replace cogs as well ... you can buy the kit for these

piston slap is a knock at start up only .. not a rattle
