Firstly thank you all for the posts on these two problems.
Unfortunately I live in a small rural community and the nearest Auto specialists are four hour return trip away, so difficult to arrange service.
I contacted the person who did transmission fluid changed Castrol Automatic TQM-ST (Suitable for most models of Hyundai, Mitsubishi & Proton) Formulated to meet the performance requirements of the Mitsubishi SP-2/2M and SP-3 specification.
I drained the sump and refilled with same fluid as only type available where I live.
After driving checked hot level and fluid is at correct level.
Transmission now:
1. When first starting car in morning, move selector to R slight delay then slight clunk into R. Same for D.
2. Slight hesitation changing while cold.
3. Driving around town sometimes hesitation changing down when stopping and then moving off at give ways.
4. On long trips occasional funny down shift when kicked to overtake.
5. Bit noisy (?)
Any ideas appreciated. Am looking for reliable and trustworthy transmission company in Canberra.
Any suggestions glady accepted.

Addition.
The brake problem appears to have resolved itself. Has not happened since weird noise braking downhill coming into Queanbeyan from Bungandore.
Strange but only happens on that particular hill.

Sometimes a small stone or piece of gravel can get lodged between pad and caliper

With the slight clunking if I park on an incline I get that. I put the car in neutral then apply handbrake then move into park to take the load of the tranny.
How's the tranny doing now? (just noticed this is an old post).

Genuine fluid the only way to go cheap as at 46 bucks flush it till its a lovely shade of red bet it fixs the issues being an old post I'd say hes already resolved it
