Okay, first up, I know the car needs to see a mechanic... but right now, thats not a viable option for me. I don't have the funds, so I wanted to ask here first.

My car is a 1996 Mitsubishi Magna automatic. Its duel fuel.

On Wednesday, during the day, it was driving perfectly fine, everything seemed to be working A-OK.
Wednesday night, I went to go to the shop.
I reversed out my driveway, put the car into drive and put my foot on the go pedal. Not a lot happened. The engine sounded loud, like it was pushing, but there was absolutely nothing happening elsewhere. The car was barely moving.
I pushed it a little harder, and it finally started to creep up in speed.
About 100 metres up the road, the tyres on the car locked up, it skidded for a second, then resumed its normal business.
Lacking a little power, but otherwise, still seemed to be travelling similiar to normal.

I drove the car to my friends house after the shops, spent some time there. When I went to leave again, the same thing happened.
In my own driveway the next morning, same thing happened again, and its done it every time since.

My dad knows some stuff about cars, but he's never heard of it, seemed to think I was full of it. So I got him in the car this morning, when all the tyres locked up he yelled at me "did you do that????"
Uh... NO, its just the thing I told you about.
It scares the living crud out of me, and I know I can't drive it in town, because if the car does that in town and a car is behind me, I'm going to wind up in a rear ender.
Supposed to be driving to Newcastle, but ain't gunna happen when the car is doing this.

Transmission fluid was checked. Seemed like plenty in there, but dad gave it a top up anyway.
Otherwise, we're clueless.
Anybody heard anything like this????

Sounds like the gearbox is in the process of destroying itself.
Stay within walking distance of home if you dare drive it at all.

I agree with max, wifes did that recently and was diagnosed as the trans being stuffed.
Shop around to find a spare ready to throw in. Least it will be cheaper than our awd to to install.

Holy Smokes..... $880 for replacement part to get it fitted because apparently, they reckon, the dif is part of the gearbox unit. Hence the tyres locking up?
Wtf.

4 or 6 cyl

I have a good used auto from a TE (as they are different to everything else) you can have for $450 plus shipping, fitting it you can do yourself if you can get the car high enough to get under and get the box out, it is heavy so you would need something to support it with or you can do what some do and use and engine crane from on top to lower it to the ground.
