A few posts have come up here about Castrol Magnatec being bad.

Is this in general or just in particular for our engines?

And what is so bad about this oil exactly?

Thanks

I have used magnatech for the last 6 years without issue. Some people will hate it, others love it

I found it no good in a worn motor, Penrite HPR 10 is great in worn motor, my Verada blows less smoke then it did 3 years ago when I bought it using HPR 10

I have used it in my TW for the last 9 years. I have not had a problem

There are antidotal reports that it hardens the valve stem seals which leads to increased oil consumption.

Personally I am a bit of a penrite fan and use it wherever and whenever I can. Having said that, I do favour the castrol gearbox oils...

Agreed

I had Magnatec in my TF, replaced it with Penrite 5W40 and noticed a major difference with the car. After all the research you do, trying to find the best oils it all comes down to what you want to put in your car.
