Ok,
I am in need of some urgent help :-(

I made note of dizzy alignment before I took the rocker cover off, etc. A mate came around and talked me out of doing the head gasket and try some "Rislone Block seal". This was after I'd removed dizzy, rocker cover, and had the exhaust manifold half off. Given I know little about cars, I chickened out and followed his advice. Everything went back in the exact way it came out, but the car won't start.

I have spark from the coil. All leads went back where I noted them from. Dizzy went back in where I noted it from. Obviously, I stuffed something up.

So, my question is: How do I get cylinder 1 back to TDC? I do not have a compression tester or timing light, and am doing it all on my own :-(

Regarding the head gasket... IF the head has blown, it can't be much as the only sign is it gets hot after driving on the hwy and come back to normal streets (50km/h). No milkiness in oil, no oil in coolant, and no bubbling in coolant. Could it just be a blocked radiator?

I really need help to get this car back on the road so I can get to work :-( HELP!!!!

Did you disconnect battery, fuel pump or relay, or anything like that you may have forgotten to reconnect?

Does the motor turn over and not fire?

Does the motor not even turn over at all?

What happens when you turn the key?

Looking in my crystal ball, I see you have a 2.6L 4 cylinder, and the distributor ignition timing is one tooth out. It turns as you put it in.

TDC = line up the mark on the crank pulley with the "0" on the timing cover. The arm on the distributor (take cap off) should point to the mark on the vacuum advance. (Consult the workshop manual)

Only thing I disconnected apart from the dizzy, was the battery neg, which is back on.

Engine turns over, but does not fire. Spark at dizzy from coil.

When I turn the key, it trys to start (turns over) but fails to fire.

Wish I had one of your crystal balls lol

These two guys, Scotty Kilmore and Eric the Car Guy are brilliant for learning about motor mechanics. They have hundreds of videos on just about anything you can think of to do with maintaining and diagnosing you vehicle.

MadMax is spot on. Being only just one tooth out, the engine will not run at all, and will barely show any signs of life.
