Hi everybody,

I have just purchased a 2002 TJ magna and can't work out which specific model it is.
It has the triptronic auto, in dash disolay, NO climate control (just standard), has series 2 on the back and a 3.5l v6 engine. The seats are comfy (I think they are the sports ones). And it does have a rear spoiler.
Any help would be appreciated... First magna so I don't know heaps about them.

With standard A/C i'd say executive but you can do some research here

You can tell by the VIN if you have a workshop manual (that explains the break down of the VIN).

I'm at work tonight but I'm sure someone will be able to help you out tonight or I can in the morning if you let us know your vehicle's VIN.

If its got wind up windows then its probably an Executive but if it has electric windows then its either an Advance or LS model

Don't think its an executive because its got tiptronic auto, would more than likely be the next models up.
either Advance or LS.

To my knowledge all series 2 TJ had Tiptronic. Highly doubt you'll find manual A/C controls in TJ ADVANCE. LS was not a TJ SERIES 2 badge to my knowledge.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_Magna#TJ

"The TJ Series 2 (also referred to as 'Series II'), dropped the 3.0-Litre V6 in favour of the 3.5-Litre V6 on all models, and added standard ABS across the range plus "tiptronic" to all 4-speed automatic models (as originally featured on the TF Magna Sports)."

The problem with trying to work out what model the vehicle is by virtue of installed options is that owners often upgrade base models. For example a base model executive may options/parts from a VRX or a Verada installed such as electric windows or leather seats, etc. A base model car may end up looking like a VRX, but in reality is still a base model.

The only sure way to know is to check the VIN.

True and who knows what may have been swapped, however I know a series 2 Advance had Tippy and AUTO A/C because I've drove one back in late 2002 whilst my Tf was being fault found by a dealer for a couple of days.

I'm sure you know what you are talking about and I'm sure many people (even me) would gain satisfaction from successfully playing the model guessing game based on their knowledge of Mitsubishi's, but there will always be that lingering doubt that you may have guessed the wrong model.

By comparing the VIN to what's in the front of the workshop manual will give you the 100% correct answer in less then one minute.

I was pretty sure you had cut and paste it from someplace, but non-the-less you made the effort to locate the info and help out the OP. So credit to you and those that had posted the info before you. :)

Thanks very much mate. A lookup on another site told me it was a VR-X so that's what confused me in the first place.

With kind thanks.
I will chalk it up to being unemployed for the first time in my life, buying a tj magna with the little money I had left in the hollow log out the back, and needing info about it quickly....which others here have been very kind in assisting me with. Trying to repay the karma gods!

My 2001 TJ has 1 air bag, manual windows, non tippy 4 speed, manual air, no cruise . . . . . so it is the most basic of base Exec. lol

BUT it does go like stink when asked, ABS works well, shifts smoothly, and gets 7.7L/100 km on the open road. So I'm happy! Cost me $1.5K 3 and a half years ago, and hasn't had a problem in that time. Happy camper, I is! lol

I hope yours does as well.
