Look at the front and rear of both mufflers and catalytic converter, see if the pipe has let go of the actual muffler box.
Also the pipe that bends over the rear suspension tends to rust through at the top, can't see there but you can feel it by hand.
Replaced both middle and rear pipes on my TJ for about $350. Asked for standard parts, got a Redback labelled part and a Walker labelled one. Easy bolt off/on proposition. A bit louder than the original, also have no heat shields which could be a problem if you live country/long dry grass area.

When you say louder do you also get any droning I've heard that can be an issue?

No drone, it is quiet at steady speed. Nice deep growl when accelerating, I quite like it.
The drone really only happens when you delete some parts, like the middle muffler. (AFAIK)

Found the hole today back of the front box
For what it is worth, I had the same issue with my wife's TF sedan. There was a small leak on the seam at the rear of the front muffler (the resonator). I thought "Well, this is the start of the decay" so I arranged for a new 'HotDog' to be fitted. For interest sake, I decided to cut the old one apart and see how it was made. That was a hell of a job and it turned out that the leak was only on the seam. I could easily have had the leak welded. The rest of the resonator was in perfect condition. The new 'Hot Dog' resonator didn't last very long at all and had to be replaced again. Eventually, the pipe rotted through over the rear axle as well, so ultimately the whole exhaust system was replaced - bit by bit.

Your muffler guy will probably have a quality second hand stainless steel resonator lying around, good way to go... Otherwise, if you want a bit of note, you could just put a straight pipe instead.
