View Full Version : Fuse Question Relating to Interior Lights Modification

Auto Electrics is not my thing; so please help me out with what may seem like a simple question to some members. For the record, I've searched the forum, consulted my Owners Manual and Workshop Manual without finding a satisfactory answer.

Recently I bought a couple of C-pillars of another member, which have push button "map/reading lights". My 2002 TJ2 Magna Sports did not have this feature.

I discovered that the left side of my vehicle already had the electrical loom in place for the light and the right side didn't have the loom. Apparently this is normal.

I installed the c-pillar panels and plugged in the left side light, but it doesn't work. I assume/guess it may be fuse related i.e a missing fuse.

According to my Owner's Manual fuse 11 in the engine bay fuse box is related to the "room lamp". This is obviously working as my interior lights work just fine.

Does anyone know what needs to be done to get the C-pillar lamps working?

Thank you :ninja:

Are you using google to search? Because its the only way to go... Just add the word "magna".

I'm a huge fan of Google, but I was just using the forum search engine, which leaves a lot to be desired.

Thanks for the link with the info. :woot:

Shezza, that is good info, but I still have one question that has me puzzled.

The left side of my vehicle has the loom already in place (as in no need for splicing with, and/or stealing volts from other wires etc.) but the light still doesn't work when it is plugged into the available socket that is obviously meant for the light.

Why is that?

Probably because somewhere along that line one of the plug in harnesses are not the high spec which would have power going to that light. usually the Dash harness.

Okay thanks. That kind of makes sense, although it seems counter-intuitive that they would install wiring that is not connected.

I think I should just hand it over to an auto-electrician and save getting head-aches.

In the future I was considering installing electric seats. I haven't looked but am told the harness is in place under the seats. Probably the same deal as in the wires are there but don't work...

Power seat harness is never fitted to cars without power seats.

Also, it was quite common for Mitsubishi to condense their harnesses over time. So while the left side of the car was a standard harness for all specs, the right side was either a low or high spec harness. Same for the dash harness which is why you don't have any power to your plug. Plug B78 at the junction box is where you need to get power to the rear lamps. The (low spec) dash harness probably doesn't have the wire to feed to the floor harness.

I know it is quite common for non-Mitsubishi vehicles to have electric seat harnesses in vehicles without electric seats. This is my first Mitsubishi and a few others have told me the harness is almost certainly there. I will have to go and have a look to put that matter to rest.

Thanks Mike
