Ok.....bought my wife a TW ES S2 (GR) wagon last weekend that is in pretty good nick inside and out, but I'm a nerd when it comes to the finer points of car detailing and one of those is the "starkness" of the engine bay ie as they say Bitsaremising". Had seen on EBay an additional engine cover ($45 incl postage) that really compliments the bay. It fits fwd of the inlet manifold...anyway it arrived today but cover only, no bolts etc. It has 5 bolt holes which the back 2 are obvious (6mm x 19.5 allen head bolts I guess) but the 3 in front ??? Who can help me there ? Also it came with a VRX decal which it's not !!! so what was the original as they are now obsolete.

Oh yeh "GR" -> "Golden Retriever"

Cheers
Ron

you need the rocker cover which has the additional mounts. as said below this model didn't come with the covers. the std verada cover would be a better option if you didn't like the vrx , same as the one in this pic is the verada one http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mitsubishi-Magna-Verada-Engine-3-5l-6G74-with-new-Timing-Belt-Kit-/201046451568?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2ecf4d6570

The TW ESs didn't come with this cover from factory, you require a new front bank rocker cover (and new rocker cover gasket and spark plug tube seals would also be recommended) from a suitable vehicle (Sports, VRX, Verada, AWD) which has the brackets attached, to replace your original one. These are best sought from the wreckers, but make sure the mating surface is not warped, while you're there, get the bolts that attach the engine cover.

As far as the stickers go, they were only made specifically for the vehicles that were fitted to from factory with the exception of the Verada Ei & Xi front wheel drive models which say 'Mitsubishi 3500 V6 24 Valve'.

The models that came fitted with these had 3 upright brackets welded onto the front rocker cover for the engine cover to mount onto. So best result is to source a new front rocker cover.

Edit: Beaten to the punch, 3 replies in the same minute, not too bad. I have been wanting to do this to.

I'm always surprised when a new-to-Magnas owner goes straight for the dress-up bits.
I'm more concerned with the mechanical side of things when I get another car.

Anyhow, try bending some suitable brackets out of steel bar and superglue them to the front rocker cover. (Been wanting to do it that way myself, but never got around to it. lol)

Thanks for the concerns MadMax, but at $5,200 we are willing to spend some extra bucks if there are any serious mechanical issues to deal with and I like those dress up bits. You must admit the stock engine looks naked and stark without that cover ie looks as if a mechanic did the head gaskets and forgot to put the dress up bits back on ! I'll make up some brackets as you suggested to lift the cover off the rocker cover and glue them with maybe fibre glass and resin ???

Thanks to others for your help ;-) I'll source our local "UPullit" sites over the next few months else do my own FYI brackets.

Cheers !

Thanks TW2005.....I'll give our local dealers a buzz but doubt my luck as these bits at 10 years of age are now obsolete.

I think you got that cover from us by the looks of it, we have them listed as both cover only as well as a kit which comes with the cover gasket and rocker cover as well.

Super Glue brackets to a hot, oily, metal painted cover, comon Max, you have said some stupid things in the past but this takes the cake.

you can use the cover if you can get the 2 rear clips and then the 2 rear most bolts, many over the years have used the covers and not worried about the front 3 bolts, it wont come flying off especially if you super glue it to something

I got a cover for Vera from our local Pick-A-Part for $5.

*note it was a very hot shorts & tank top type of day and being a girl at a wreckers .... you get the drift ;)*

You will need a rocker cover from a sports, vrx, verada etc (all the cars that have the high output engine) and since you have to change the cover - buy a set of rocker cover gaskets and change them at the same time = no oil leaks and fancy engine cover.

thanks for that bb61266....I have been scouring our "UPullit" yards and found one but its from an early version that doesn't have Mitsubishi bla bla stamped on the cover, but I understand how it has the additional support brackets spot welded to it to fasten the engine cover on.
