I know, that's a pretty serious title to hold, and I dare say mine isn't. Without a doubt though, it would be coming somewhat close.

This was listed for $500. After it failed to sell, I picked it up for the cost of towing - basically its scrap metal value.

The Bad

Everything. In summary, not one straight panel. Gouged and creased metal up the passenger side. May as well not have any paint. Bonnet struts collapsed. Transaxle stuck in third gear (TCU). Idles rough, valve clatter or bad lash adjusters. Oil everywhere. Smokes like a train. Interior door handles broken. Drivers door sticky. Battery is new, but horribly undersized (270CCA). 287,000 kilometres on the odometer. Generally dirty.

The Good

Mitsubishi factory alloys (4 + Spare) are dirty, but in decent shape. Tires are rather new. Radiator is new (Sep 2013). Muffler is fairly new. Power transistor and coil recently replaced. Leads recently replaced. Indicators and lights are good. Pulleys are newer and quiet. Power window gear all works perfectly. ECU works. Many other parts still to be investigated that all appear to work.

The reason I haven't posted this in Member's Machines is because it's not to be driven. Nobody in their right mind would drive this. Hell, the bus rides smoother. This car will be donating all its functional goodies to Alice, my other TR. (Get it? Alice In Chains? Astron II? Chain Rattle? Bah. Forget it.)

Other than the above, I'll also keep looking around for what else can be salvaged and kept for the TR. Anyone have any suggestions for other spares I should be looking at? Any common failure points on Second Gens that I could possibly keep spare parts for?

is this the start of your fleet

the yard front yard doesnt look big eneough to keep both cars
hope you have a titan

if it cant sell for 500 thats a bad sign for the second gens survival in later years

I like the 4 cyl in this model
are they both autos
cruz gives problems
what sort of km are we talking about

It can't sell because it's a peice of shit, this in no way effects "2nd gens" as a whole. What re you on about

People probably took a look and saw the condition and ran the other way

Pretty much spot on. It had plenty of interest at $500, but once they saw that the transmission wouldn't shift out of third, they ran. lol

The auto box seems to be fine, so I'll bet that I'll pull the transmission computer out and find bad caps in there.

Once the Grey one has been stripped for everything useful, I'll be sending it off to scrap metal. That said, there's no rule saying I can't add another Second Gen to the fleet later, and I'm sure I'll have enough spares to cover both. There's only room for two cars here, so there'll be no more than two kept at any one time. Thankfully there is a rather decent sized shed to store all the various bits and pieces.

A second gen that is drivable will easily sell for $500 still. The amount of damage this one has is what kept it from selling.

Both cars are 4-cyl Automatics. 236,000 on the white car - 287,000 on the grey one. White car is still being used as a daily driver and runs pretty well, just has a few areas that need attention still.

Surprisingly the engine in the grey TR quietened down after getting some oil flowing again. It hasn't been started in about 6 months so no surprise it would be a little dry at the top end. Honestly if I had the time and cash I'd take the 2.6L out of the grey car and slowly learn to rebuild it over the course of the year. I've never built an engine before and I'd have a fresh motor to use at the end of it.

Definitely not the worst 2nd gen I've seen.

It Pays to keep some spares for the cooling system, water pump, thermostat, hoses and coolant/water mix. I've replaced quite a few split hoses, never know when one will let go under pressure.
Other items good for spares would be rear brake light bulbs, interior door handles, distributor, o2 sensor, CV boots, seat belt catches.. that's about the most common things I've experienced.

Noted all of the above, will probably print this thread out and take it with me when I start dismantling it. I'll add the headliner to that list - even though it's falling, I can retrim it and shove it in the other car.

Grabbed a few more photos, the damage is pretty extensive as you can see.

Starts at the front guard and ends near the fuel filler. Pretty serious hit as well.

Panel gap. That's with the bonnet completely closed, it's just bent at that corner.

'Straya.

Interior looks rough. All four door cards are stuffed. Power window switches and the like are good, carpet is salvageable and most of the dash is as well.

Only one interior door handle is intact. The other three are all like this.

Considering the car has 287,000 on the clock now, interesting to see that Profix has said it's good until 295,000. The way it's running now, I'm not exactly convinced.
