I have a slight clunk that I tracked down to the uni-joint in the steering column that allows you to tilt the wheel. Is this replacable on its own or do I need to replace the entire column? I already got the lower uni-joint thinking that was causing the clunk, but after replacing it the clunk is still there. Could I use this uni for the column?

This is what I see as the breakdown. Where did you get the bottom joint? You can also get a clunk / knock if there is wear in the column bushing as well . I had a TF which at 60 000k had clunky column

The bottom joint I replaced is the one at the top of shaft 45343A, on the bottom of the column. I got it from the wreckers for $16, no returns unfortunately . Looking at that diagram it looks like the column is an assembley and is not intended to come apart. Looks easier to get an entire column, only $31.

keep in mind they usually use security bolts to mount these.

Looks like a lot of mucking around. May just have to live with it. Might practice taking one off next time I goto the wreckers, see if it could be rebuilt in situ.

My HJ galant has a worn column at 311 000k , it's safe and I live with it at 20years old it's part of its character.

Use a needle punch and hammer to undo them. Replace them with a standard 12 mm head bolt.
