Hi Guys,
My LA Lancer is running a 4G54, with twin 45 Webers, extractors and a mild cam. Pistons and head are the factory original. The car's performance is good, without being great. (Maybe a few horses have escaped over the years.)
Wondering what the best “bang for buck” engine upgrade might be from here, including engine swaps.
Thanks,
Spetz

I think the LA Lancer is a rear wheel drive . . . have fun putting any engine from a front wheel drive in. Then there's the electronics to run the engine . . . fun!?
Bang-for-buck it would't be.
Save up for an Evo perhaps? Or a 2.6L engine from the rear wheel drive Sigma?

Wasn't there a RWD variant of the 4G63T too though?

I've seen the evo motors converted to a rwd configuration before

Thanks for the replies so far.
The 2.6 litre 4G54 I'm running is out of a Sigma.
As far as I know, the Starion Turbo (RWD) used an early variant of the 4G63. The 4G63 engine swap into the early Lancer is possible, but it won't be cheap.

You could switch to Magna flat to pistons and the last Magna cylinder head before the HSCC head. I think it's a TR, It has the best air flow. Get it slightly ported before fitting. May be some more cam wihile your there.
Or you could turbo the 2.6 you already have. they make big grunt so you'll need to upgrade diff, gearbox and clutch.
Cheers Dave.
