Hi Guys & girls,

This is my first post in the forums (member as of this morning!!)

I am looking at purchasing a new head unit for my 380 VRX, i have already installed a double din fascia but i am bit lost as to what head units are good value.

1. I would like to spend less that $600 if possible (although i could be convinced otherwise)

2. I need bluetooth, Steering wheel button integration, reversing camera input.

3. I would like media playback, mainly music, possibly DAB & inbuilt gps, but not critical, my phones gps works perfectly well.

I have a mongoose MC304 camera (http://www.4myride.com.au/Mongoose_MC304_p/mc304.htm ) and have been looking at a few head units from clarion, kenwood, sony & pioneer.

Are there any units you guys recommend to suit my needs?

Thanks for letting me join!

Welcome to the forums. Head units are more of a personal choice for what your looking for. A lot of stuff used to be just about how good the audio output was but now with touch screens, GPS, dab etc there's just so much out there to choose from. A good start point for looking for what'll suit your needs best is to just use that list and write down each unit you find irrelevant of price then start calling up parts store to see if they have them in the shop to have a little play with. The biggest hurdle you come across is the stereo controls. Search the internet to see what's out there and what manufacturers have direct support or use a generic adaptor you have to wire in yourself. Hope that helps

I was thinking of changing my JVC for a unit with easier to touch, dedicated, answer/hang up buttons, but that seems difficult.

Pretty sure some head units will do all your connection stuff, then add in the mirror feature, and your phone screen is moved to the headunit... Not sure on it's limitations, but worth looking into...

If you're willing to forgo the DAB+ and Navigation, something like the Pioneer AVH-X5550BT ticks all the other boxes and looks like a fairly nice unit.

I brought a Pioneer AVH2450BT I think it was. It was installed in my TE and I swapped it into my 380. Brought the 380 face plate bizzo from ebay, brought a PAC SWI or something like that so I have full steering wheel controls (and if I want I can reprogram the PAC audio adapter so the steering wheel buttons will do different functions if I want). The head unit has bluetooth, reverse camera and all that good stuff. I think (and it was a while ago) but I think that set me back about 800 or so. Was more if you included the new speakers and amps, but just from what you mentioned it was about 800. I don't have the DAB+ as I nearly always use bluetooth or a USB drive and I have a Garmin Nuvi 3597 GPS and I'm more than happy with the older head unit. Brought it from JB HIFI during a sale they had about 4 yrs ago I think.

After doing a bit more research i am tossing up between the Clarion http://www.4myride.com.au/Clarion_VX603AU_p/4961033011318.htm and the Sony http://www.4myride.com.au/Sony_XAV64BT_A_V_Receiver_with_Bluetooth_4myride_p/4905524825879.htm.

The clarion has the ability for GPS to be added at a later date, the sony does not have GPS at all but the price is very attractive, has anyone had any experience with either of these units?

You have made me change my mind again. The Pioneer AVHX3600DAB seems to do everything I want, and has mirror-link so i can just use my phones gps!

I think this will be my final choice http://www.4myride.com.au/Pioneer_AVHX3600DAB_p/4988028229602.htm
