Hi guys, I discover a hole in the interior of left hand side under the dash board/glove box near the front passenger door. Does anyone know what that hole is for? Cheers.

Oh by the way, it is CJ Lancer LX. Thanks.

A photo would help here, or a description on how big the hold is, did you buy the car new or used?

My best guess at the moment since it's an lx, is that it could be a hole reserved for an extra feature in an up market lancer.

I say this because it's cheaper to design the basics of a car the same in terms of design and aesthetics when you're designing about 6 different ranges and all have the same basic interior and exterior.

You'll find the veradas and magnas had this characteristic too which is why it was so easy to carry over something from a later model to an earlier model and vice versa

It is brand new mate. Very logical thought. I will try to upload. Thanks.

No problem. It is part of the ventilation system, I think.
Wife has a 2011 ES Lancer. Same hole, same place.
Turn the fan on, set the system to floor, and see if air comes out.
Let us know what happens, been wondering this myself. Might try this tomorrow.

(Don't tell the Magna owners the fuel consumption of the Lancer, most will cry or at least get jealous. lol)

I suppose you have found the USB port in the glovebox, or do you have the big screen entertainment system?
Had a good play with the central display yet?

Nailed man! Found the USB port, stream music through BT, hours of fun. The voice control is much more accurate than the Ford and Mercedes. Cheers MadMax! XD

Not knowing too much about Lancer's, i'd hazard a guess and say that is where the bonnet release lever mounts on the LHD models?

The bonnet release lever actually is a one piece built in panel just like other car that mount on the underside of the dash board. I am sure this hole is not for the bonnet release mount. Thanks for that any. Cheers. By the way, 6G75 Verada, do you actually have a Verada that have 6G75 transplant? Cool! Quick?

JDM cars have flares there as standard but they are illegal or something in Australia.

Was a half decent guess at least :)
6g75 powered Verada is a goal, not a reality at this stage :(

Google lancer flare holder and all will be clear!

Apparently a small torch fits in too!

That's really shitty of Mitsubishi to leave it like that. At the very least you'd have the base models have a little cover, exposed wirings is something you wouldn't even expect from a $10,000 Proton. Unless something fell off this one?

Yeah something fell off, half a car... nah I joke, lancers not a bad car, I'm trying to talk my boss into buying 3 of them as rental cars to replace our tired old corollas

Nothing fell off, it really is a mount for a flare. You know, car breaks down, sits on the side of the road, you pull out the flare and light it and put it on the road to warn other motorists you are parked in an unexpected spot.
Except they are not provided on the Aus and UK Lancers. We can't be trusted with fireworks apparently. lol

I know. What I said in my post was they should have a little cover for models that don't have the flares since that's not an ADM option. Have a reread :P

No, I refuse to re-read. lol
The Lancer is a global car, designed to cater for all markets.
The fuel consumption readout can be set to l/100 km, km/L, miles/US gallon, miles/UK gallon as one example.
Mitsu saves money by doing the "one car fits all markets" approach. It would cost an extra 20 cents per car to make that plastic bit without the flare holder for non US markets. lol

You don't have to reread, but don't state the obvious to me cause you couldn't be bothered. :P
I know all that, my post still stands. Having a bare hole showing exposed wiring behind it is not what you expect from a car like the Lancer, regardless of those facts. This is Mitsubishi, not Ssangyong.

Mine has a torch in it now, so your concern is not relevant. lol

You could secure a cigar in there for post-accident/emergency relaxation.

MadMax
07-04-2014, 09:28 AM
Anything you put in there would need to be a tight fit, otherwise it will just slip down and disappear behind the plastic.
That torch has rubber rings around it, they just happen to hold the torch in quite nicely.

Add to that the hard plastic parcel shelf makes a good dust collector...the current Lancer interior is a real let down that's for sure. That said, I like the steering wheel and the VRX and Ralliart sedans look good.

Yep, lots of things you can complain about on the Lancer. (Lots of good stuff on it too, though.)

The CJ Lancer first came out in 2008, so it's an older design, and seeing the price of a new Lancer hasn't moved in 10 years, it is still good value for money.
Your reliable but basic and cheap car, really, to compete with dozens of similar cars on the market.

Totally agree with you Jakey. First thing that came to my mind when I first saw it....a plastic plug would have done fine, and only worth a few cents. I initially thought it was a missing courtesy foot light.

When you have a car that does 7.7 L /100 km in the same in-town driving where a Magna needs 13.6 L /100 Km, you can forgive it little things like that.

Correct, it didn't worry me at all...my Lancer is currently paying for itself form the fuel savings alone. The GTVi currently does a total of 4 km per day (the wifes work is close by), where as the lancer does >25km per day....the maths adds up.
On a good day going to work I manage 6.5 L / km.... good run of traffic lights and light traffic. When I drove it to Melb, it averaged 7.2 L /100km for the whole journey.
On a grand scale, a little hole in the kick panel seems so insignificant. lol

My wife really go easy on the Lancer because she will see every one that over take her at the next traffic light! She is doing 6.8-7 L/100km. She is doing ok!

When they stop leaving holes in the trims with exposed wires behind them to cut costs in certain markets?
I've driven in a few standard ones and it was not a pleasant experience - although I'd be willing to try again in an Evolution, of course! Sadly, they canned that, so there goes their best car. Although, that new Outlander PHEV looks pretty damn respectable for the price.

Maybe Lancer owners don't realize how much more capable other cars in it's class are?

Even when they came out I think Lancers were behind the competition in some respects, and that is 7 years ago and the model has not changed.
The Mazda 3 has had 2 new models in that time, and the current one I believe starts at around $22K.
Unless the Lancer is only about $15K or less then it is overpriced compared to the competition (IMHO).

Let's leave it at that.

To some people, holes in the kick panel may be a deal breaker to others it is not.

The EVO is not necessarily their best car, the Pajero has been their flagship, and now the Outlander....horses for courses....I wouldn't drive an EVO X to work every day, nor a Pajero.

For an affordable car to drive, and get around in the City, the Lancer LX is a definite contender. I love it. Its not the car I would take for a spirited run through the hills, I have the GTVi for that.

While I'd agree, it would have been better for the AU Market not to have the Mystery Hole in the first place.
If you could find a small LED Torch that would fit in it (as said earlier), I'd look at that Mystery Hole as an added feature! lol

Agree. The LX is a very nice every day car. With a bit of surprise with creature comforts.
