View Full Version : 3rd gen driveshafts - same across TE - TW?
Hey everyone,
Just picked up some driveshafts at an autostore, When I got home I realised that the receipt said they were for a TE / TF. Are the driveshafts the same across the range?
I have a TJ II

I thiiiiiink they are. I mean, the dummy shaft is the only thing different between auto/manual & 3.0/3.5. I think the outer shafts & CVs are the same.
My mate, who worked at the shop was looking up for the manual TJ and auto TJ. (Mine was an auto, conv to a manual) He said that the system said that the auto and manual were the same for TJ?

Yep, I was referring to the dummy shaft which sits behind the engine. As far as I know, those are the only parts that are different. The left & right drive shafts should be the same across all the models.
bumping for confirmation.

4sp auto and 5sp manual are all the same, some may not have abs rings n them but can be installed. The only difference with these is the intermediate shaft
5sp auto are different on the pass side but again drivers side shaft is the same

I think the only ones that are significantly different are the AWD ones, AFAIK
Hey everyone, ended up getting my driveshafts not too long ago. I've heard that one side is ment to be a 2 piece?
I've got both of them as 1 piece's, with a different part number on each one. Would just like to confirm that these are correct.

The passenger side goes straight into the gearbox, the drivers side goes into something called the intermediate shaft, this must be the 2nd piece they are referring to.

Thanks for the reply, so its alright to replace them and just mount the drivers side into the drive shaft?

The intermediate shaft does have seals that could use a service but IIRC they arent cheap however I dont think they leak easily.
You mean the drivers side into the "intermediate" shaft? If so then yes, but its easier to remove the intermediate shaft from the car with the drive shaft and separate the two that way.
