So I was driving my car through a hilly area the other night, pushing the car pretty hard up hills. Stopped for a break and there was quite a bad smell coming from the engine. It just had a service too.

The car has also developed some sort of grinding noise in the front of the car. The noise is noticable when accelerating around 2-3k rpm and is faint at higher speeds.
Also is faint when revving the car at a stand still.

Any ideas guys?

where would you start could be anything. bad smell, oil burning, plastic burning, rotten egg, coolant smell, ?? front of car but where in the engine bay if heard revving?

Something I have had happen is separation of the harmonic balancer, so if that sound and smell is around that area have a close look to see if anything is rubbing or the belts are chewed or out of alignment.

Failed, overheating cat convertor could cause smells , not that I've experienced that yet.
