I want to know if the 6 stacker stereo in a 380 sports DB series III takes mp3 cd's on a dvd disk, or will it only accept cd?

It wouldn't take a DVD.

A double DIN after market headunit that plays DVD video could probably cope with a DVD full of MP3 tracks, but I doubt if any original equipment single DIN units exist that take DVD mp3s.

If you want lots of mp3s, go for a single DIN head unit that has USB input, 16, 32 or 64 GB of mp3s go a long way!

Od course, there is the 380 Canbus problem with after market head units to contend with.

All you would need to do is buy a 380 facia kit which you will be able to use to replace the 6 stacker with a single or dual DIN unit, ie:

The removal of the dash parts and factory stacker etc is not too difficult.

In removing the 6 stacker & replacing with aftermarket you will end up with an error code (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=90336)in the display unit. I think given all of the extra features (USB, BT, Aux, RCA's etc etc) you will get with an aftermarket unit, it's probably a reasonable trade off.

You will then lose the stereo wheel controls which can be fixed with a PAC SWI (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PAC-SWI-RC-Steering-Wheel-Aussie-Run-New-2011-All-In-One-Bluetooth-/231203165709?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item35d4c8560d&_uhb=1)unit. Which by now probably seems like way too much trouble and maybe you should just keep the 6 stacker...!
