Had this problem since about 96' lol but never really bothered to ask anyone about it. Since i will be driving the car soon i can't live without FM so i need help.

One day many years ago we were just sitting at the lights listening to a FM station then suddenly had no reception. This was the case with all the FM stations and has been the same ever since. Once in a while it will work(once every six months maybe?) but thats about it. The thing is if the engine is not running it runs fine. As soon as you start her up it has no reception again. May i add AM works perfectly though. Was wondering if this is a common problem with these? If we installed a new head unit do you think this problem would still occur since it may be something to do with the arial?

Another problem with it: The right speaker also failed on us around the same time. We have never pulled the head unit out of the slot or ever touched the speakers so i'm guessing that both of these problems are something electrical. Just wondering if anyone here has experienced these problems before and how you fixed it?

One more question. How do you get the metal mesh thing off the front speakers? Is it just a case of wedging a screw driver under there or is there more to it?

Could be a few things, try checking to see if the aerial is slightly unplugged (had the same problem when i got my new hu, had am but no fm, found out the aerial was only just touching, i dunno about other people but my aerial cable is VERY short with about 1 cm of slack :(. When the speaker blew it could have taken out the remote/permanent 12v wire leading into your HU, could be electrical interference from the engine/alternator, hmmm, could be a fuse or a circuit protector, doesn't the car run at 11-12V not running and 13V while running, voltage might be setting off a circuit protector, dunno much more than that sorry or if any of that made sense lol. With front speaker just get flat head screw driver and POP.
