As recommended by a member here, I have used Morey’s Diesel Smoke killer additive in my ASX. Basically I’ll go straight to the point and say this stuff really works.

As was discussed in the other thread the issue with DPF fitted diesels is that they got blocked with
soot and can’t regenerate properly or have to regenerate often thus causing the infamous oil dilution problem.

For those who don’t know, DPF is freed up (cleaned) from trapped soot which is essentially black smoke by burning it when it’s trapped in the filter and turning it into ash. It is done by injecting diesel at the exhaust stroke thus increase exhaust temperatures required value. Problem is that some diesel find its way past the piston rings and into the oil sump thus diluting oil and also causing oil overfilling problem thus requiring more frequent changes.

Morey’s additive reduces amount of smoke by several ways.
• Raising cetane number of the diesel
• Cleaning your fuel system
• Preventing diesel bug

I have used it for about 6 tanks now. I’d say mileage on average increased from 700 to about 740-760 per tank. I think most of is due to the fact that the regenerations are a lot less frequent, thus less diesel is wasted by cleaning the DPF.

ASX is programmed to do default regens at every 750ks even if the filter is not blocked yet. I actually had one yesterday meaning the filter did not require regeneration even after 750ks. Default regen only lasted 2 minutes meaning filter did no need it yet (when filter gets block its takes about 6-10 minutes on average for regen to complete). Prior to using it i would normally get 2-3 regens per tank of diesel, while now it’s rarely more than 1.

It costs $23 per bottle from supercheap will last about 10 tanks. While this might not actually give much costs benefit I’m sure owners of DPF fitted diesels will appreciate the benefits of not having constant regens and not having to worry about the oil dilution problem.

Anyone else with experience?

Andrei,

I suspect I might be the member who recommended the Morey's additive.
My experience after using it for a few months now is much the same as yours - fewer "DPF full see handbook" messages, less frequent regens, and improved fuel economy. In my opinion it works.
However I also use Wynn's DPF cleaner - a 375mm bottle every four tanks of diesel - together with the Morey's, so it's hard for me to tell which of these two products gives the most benefit, or if I really need only one of them at a time. I suspect the Morey's is giving me the most benefit, as there was only a small improvememt when I used the Wynn's by itself but a dramatic improvement when I started using the Morey's as well.

Yep it was your advice. I went into Repco to buy it, but they don't stock it. They had Diesel Power by Chemtec instead, i could not see any difference after few tanks so went over to supercheap and got Morey's, i guess what benefits our cars is the fact that Morey's raises cetane number while Chemtec does not so diesel ignites sooner thus burning for longer thus producing less black smoke.

How did you go with that oil catch can?

My old man was good friends with Phil Morey who founded Moreys Oil, we used to use the products in a lot of our cars especially when we used to do the Rotaries and was awesome product.

Unlike many of these additives and similar Moreys does what it is stated to do.

Didn't do anything in the end.
Main problem is there is nowhere to mount one in the Jag engine bay, it's already chocko with no room to spare.
