Hi Guys,
I've been slowly trying to work my way to have my car tiptop.
However I've been having issues clearing up a couple of problems and need your help!
These are the couple of problems I am having, any help would be greatly appreciated.
1. This has been answered and fixed courtesy of maggie3.5. Thank you.
2. I don't know why but when it rains the car somehow somewhere leaks. Not really bad, but if it rains say constantly for 2 days, the car becomes damp and starts pooling water in the front floor wells. I think more so the passenger side than the drivers for whatever reason.
3. This is an after-market issue, thought I'd post anyway in case someone can help. my model magna came with roll-up windows as opposed to power windows. The genuine kit proved to expensive and timely to organise, door cards, loom etc. so I opted to get those power window kits that you can buy for 100 bucks off ebay. problem i am having is that the passenger side window is always extremely weak. we have greased the living hell out of the tracks and rubbers.
I am almost certain it has something to do with power or motor. driver side appears absolutely fine and i have changed the motor (in case it was damaged or faulty) once already and have the exact same result. all i know is that the loom serving the passenger side window is obviously much longer in run than the driver side.. would that have any affect whatsoever? this one is a doozy..
FYI car is 2002 TJ Exec.
IF you need any further info for any of the above i am more than happy to arrange if it results in a solution.
Thank you guys.

Firstly ,,you have disconnected the battery..???..
you need to reset the trip...hold down the mode button...s is for sedan..then the numbers 3.0 and 3.5 will show ...push until you get the s and 3.5
that plug isnt used for anything afaik

Re the leak, is the car parked on an angle during the rain?

Nope, perfectly flat pretty much all the time. home is flat, work is flat.

Leak: remove leaf catcher under windscreen, check for rust, blocked drains, etc.
Also check and reapply sealant if needed around hinge mounts.

I did that quite a while ago and everything seemed fine. but i'll take your advice and do it again.
Question though: does the catcher itself have to be sealed? I'm sure it was when i got the car but it had started getting brittle and bits of it were missing. This was my first thought on the car leaking but was told later that this isn't the case.
Let me know, thanks.

No, the plastic guard is there to just catch leaves, grasshoppers, birds etc. Water flows straight through, and drains at the sides and down at the rear edge of the front guards. It is also the air intake for fresh air, at the passenger side there is a plastic tub like thing that separates the air from water. Have a good look around there.

power window issue is the same as mine and mines genuine maybe a dodgy motor? or bent rail ?

Well if it helps.. although the passenger side window is sluggish, it goes up fine up until the last say 10th of the way up.. it creeps to a halt. BUT.. if you open the door it makes it up just fine!
So I assume that would be the inside seals slowing the process down.. i would think that a good enough power window would have no problem with though..
Any thoughts?

Have a look if the front windscreen is original or not
If not then maybe poor installation technique causing water seepage

A possibility.... There are the grommets up under the left side wheel arch. If you remove the splash guard you will find two grommets that tend to leak.

I'll do that. is there a particular badging that indicates factory glass?

Checked. The windscreen is factory glass.

Thanks I will check. although would this cause leaking in the car while it is immobile?

Just check too that the water is rainwater and not coolant on the floor.

For your sake I hope it is rain water. I just had my heater core, o-rings and the plastic pipes replaced. It cost a bloody fortune! :tired:

Extremely doubt it's coolant. only gets damper as it rains. when it's dry weather, it very slowly dries out.

Ex Cyclone Oswald left me with over an inch of water in the bottom of my car when I crawled out into the aftermath, My car had only ever had a few small leaks in the tailgate (it was a wagon). After a whole lot of hosing the car with most of the interior and dash panels drying in the sun I found the water had come down through the air inlet for the ventilation. The plastic guard which I think others have called the leaf guard - was in a pretty bad state where the upper edge met the windscreen (the car had 2 windscreens replaced before) I removed it and used a heap if silicone to make a better seal and the water stopped. It seems that while the air inlet area should drain either whole lot of water at once (eg: Cyclone!) or perhaps parking the car on a slope - like a very crowned road might be enough to let the water in.
