hi guys, ill be getting a new sound system for my car soon and will probly install it myself to safe money, just wonderin, do i have to take off the entire door trim to fit the speakers, also, wot size speakers are in the front doors, (i would go and see for my self but im about 2 days drive away from my car  ) also, to put in the head unit will i have to take out the entire center dash thingy (u know the one..) cos on most cars u can just pull the stock unit right out, but i didnt notice any little holes on the side of the unit to do so...

cheers,
tom

This topic has been done to death, and there should be plenty of other threads available, if you use the "Search" function. :)

But I will try to answer your questions anyway....

According to your profile you own a 3rd Gen.

So...

You will need to remove the entire door trim to replace the front speakers, in general the mounts are set up for 6.5" speakers, but the problem you will soon see, is that the mounting holes are not in the most convenient places, so some drilling and or spacers may be required depending on which speaker you choose. From memory some have mentioned a couple of brands that are straight forward fit, Pioneer is one of them, if I recall correctly.

To install the head unit you will need to remove the center console, start with the gear shift surround first, then the cigarette lighter/tray - this will reveal two screws, then remove the top air vents half way to reveal the top screws. It is fairly straight forward from then on.

Good luck! :)

as mentioned above - teh whole centre console will have to come out - you may end up with it looking like this:

hahaha

Also - yeah the door trims have to come off as well.

The speakers are 6.5" speakers

Oh yeah - if you want a hand installing - you are in WA - then let me know - I am perth based - not sure where in WA you are.

I did mine myself and if the time came again I would pay the dam $60 to have someone else do it it pissed me off  but i got there eventualy but I could never get the dash and other plastic pannels to fit like they did origionaly thyre more seperated and have some fine sctratches on them due to my brutal stereo install lol if an installer did this i could complain to someone but as i did it i cant  if its just the head unit my advise is to save a little extra and pay someone but you do get a sense of achevement when you do it yourself so its up to you.
good luck

Take it from me - the magna dash is quite an easy dash to work with - you want a $hit of a car to put a stereo in - the worst car I have worked in is a Hyundai Excel!!

THEY SUCK FOR STEREOS!!

excel is the gayest to do me n mate did one, whats really sh*t is when they have an aftermarket cruise control ziptied over the top of the airvent cable things (whatever they are called, the wires u gotta slip off so u can remove the centre console) took me nearly an hour to get my fat hands to get 2 things undone! BAH!!

yeah I buggered by air vents took me 2 weeks to find the problem as the cable slid out of the cable holder thing and i had no control of my vent position.
