Hi,

Just bought some tweeters to install in the front of my TH Wagon here.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=161035228262

Two questions.

1. Is it prewired? I popped the cover off but couldn't see any speaker plug, (ie has it dropped out of view and I need to fish it out or do I need to wire it up?).

2. Need to get covers for it - does anyone know if they're a standard tweeter size and I can use a generic cover?

Thanks in Advance.

Ron

Do you have stock stereo or aftermarket?
No one really bothers with the speakers in that position as they face the glass and do not achieve much.
Everyone usually installs the tweeter pods in the doors as they face you and sound much better.
And you can install the splitter boxes in the door hidden away, That your aftermarket splits have.

I know my TJ2 Magna did not have the speaker wires as standard. It was not until I upgraded the upper dash loom (for the purpose of installing a clock) from a KJ2 Verada I suddenly had the speaker wires.

So what I am saying is that those particular speaker wires form part of the upper dash loom and only some models have them. Obviously Veradas have them, but apart from that I can't tell you which other models.

Thanks - looks like I'll have to wire them in.

If you wire them into an aftermarket stereo you will have to put in splitters or one of two things can happen.
They will get to much power and sound fuzzy or they will take power away from the other speakers and make them under perform.

Yeah figured crossovers would be required. Thanks

I upgraded my old TH Wagon speakers with Alpine all round and there wasn't a feed from the front doors to the dash, wasn't hard to pull a wire through with the aid of a cut off coat hanger and while the mounting point on the dash isn't great it made a huge difference to the spacial location of the sound.

Well worth doing.

Yeah but the only problem with installing your splitters in the doors is that if you are putting sound dampening in there aswell they will absorb any moisture and could possibly f**k with your crossover so you just gotta be wary

Honestly curious about this myself cause im thinking about doing it with a set of focals but wondering how i might get the tweeter in the right spot cause i really dont feel like cutting holes in pillars and shit you know?

What will asorb moisture? butyl/tar based sound dapening wont and the plastic casing on xovers wont either. The best way to mount an xover is on the innerskin of the door, using a strip of butyl based sound dapening to hold it in place.

Then its also a good practice to lay some duct tape over the terminals on the xover.

If you dont want to cut holes in anything put your tweeters in the sail panels, veradas came with an allowance for a tweeter in them. They is probably the best spot beside a pillars for quality sound, otherwise it will be mounting them in the cups on the dash firing at the windscreen.
