Been looking at lowering my TJ and i was wondering how low can i go ... i've been looking through the site and seems a few people have gone 60mm in the front and 40mm at the rear but when i asked around town they said it can't be done so what do i have to do to get this done to my car ? ... also the people that have lowered there car to them specs ... what is the ride like ?

It can be done because most of the cars on this site have it.

Aussiemagna posted up a group buy a month or so ago in the For Sale/Wanted forums. Have a look there for the model numbers you will need.

The ride is alot bumpier.. Guess it depends on how you like your comfort.. I love my bumps.. I hate floating over them, makes me feel like im in a boat..

Most 3rd gens get the combination of King Springs Superlows Front, and Low Rear, some change shocks at the same time some don't.

After lowering my car with this setup, and putting 18" rubbers on her, the ride was firm, I wouldn't say bumpy - but then again I have been driving around in Drift Spec S13's for the past couple of weeks - and THAT is bumpy - coily's and all teh strut / sway bars done - DAMN it handles well!!

Anyways - yeah - just do the springs. and see how you go.

It can be done, I've done it in my VRX and my last TE.

Stick with King superlows front and lows rear and you won't have any problems at all. As for ride quality, I honestly don't think its decreases. But you'll feel the road alot more which I love. Honestly magna's with stock suspension feel like your driving a boat. Its the best mod you can possibly do for $250

Yes, Ive got Superlows front, lows rear, sits perfectly.. and Im satisfied with how low it is, as I will and have run into problems with the milo can... But if i didnt have that milo can, I have had NO problems with clearance.

The bumpier the better I say, to feel every molecule in the road through the steering wheel would be the ultimate lol

I have Lovells all round

60mm front
40mm rear

Looks damn sexy
Rides nicely still, you do feel the bumps a little more but it doesn't bother me.

If you go with that set up I think you will be happy.

what are your thoughts on dropping 60mm all around? I think pedders springs can do this?

For some reason it looks like the bum on my TJ SPorts seems to be higher than my front....
??

Pedders dont..

I dont even think pedders go lower than 40mm or 30mm sports suspension.

The reason Kings removed the 60mm rear from sale as Magna's were bottoming out at the rear.

i have been told with going to low it bends the cv joints or something like that and makes the car harder to steer ... that's lowering 60mm at the front ... anyone had any probs with that ?

I've got King low springs on the front and rear of my TJ Advance wagon, and find that the front mud flaps scrape on most speed humps (even when crawling over them at very slow speed).

Other than that, I'm very happy with the handling, and would hesitate going for super low front springs.

Cheers,
Martin.

Whiteline offer 50mm all round. They can also be compressed.

I haven't found my car harder 2 steer with 60mm drop at the front.

My front mud flaps use 2 scrap on pretty much every speed bump, so i trimmed them slightly, a blade and 5 to 10 minutes of my time and no problem anymore

You should have known to be more careful if you have lowered it

Is it legal though?
A large part of what I do is bout legality, not worried bout the cops, yellow sticker can be fixed, more of insurance. Get invloved in an accident and they deam something isn't legal so they won't pay out and there is a large chunk of money that goes missing from my pocket...

The Sports and VRX Models don't have a mudflap insight...so I assume it would be legal.

Heres what the situation is in Tasmania (I believe it to be similar in the other states
Mudguards and spray suppression

33. (1) A vehicle must have firmly fitted –

(a) a mudguard for each wheel or for adjacent wheels; and

(b) for each axle group and single axle on a vehicle that is part of a B-double, spray suppression devices complying with Parts 1 and 2 of British Standard AU200-1984 Spray Reducing Devices for Heavy Goods Vehicle.

(2) However, subregulation (1)(a) does not apply to a vehicle if –

(a) the construction or use of the vehicle makes the fitting of mudguards unnecessary or impracticable; or

(b) the body or part of the body of the vehicle acts as a mudguard.
Examples for subregulation (2)(a):

Most road-making plants
Some agricultural equipment.

So basically you need mudgrards unless they are impractical or the body of your car acts as a spray supressant

Well the TJ Sports and VRX models (and who knows which others..) have no mudflaps what so ever..so yeh..you can take em off. Its not like cops study the TH Sport models and check if they have mudflaps or not! After all it is a Magna, cops wouldn't bother too much with one!

Mudflaps ain't Mudguards!

Mudguards are the metal parts above and around the wheels... Mudflaps are the plastic or rubber flaps which hang down from the mudguards!

but removing them will result in lotsa stone chips behind the guards....
