Guys,

I have an 84 Pajero that I have converted into an offroad hunting buggy. It has a leaded 4G54 carby astron fitted. I've already done the balance shaft and timing chains, drilled and tapped the block for the thicker tensioner bolt and got it running really well.

I also have an 89 TP SE wagon with an injected 4G54. What I would like to do is convert my buggy to injection. I have heard I will need to cut off and reverse the plenum chamber ends to put the TB at the front of the engine in the Paj. Also machine the water pump drive off the end of the camshaft.

My plan is to use the TP head on the Pajero block. Not just swap the intake manifold. This way I also get the harder ULP valve seats and hydraulic lash adjusters.

All of my driving in the Paj is in low range 4 wheel drive, mainly at night and over some fairly average terrain. I'm after a bit more power, smoother running, easier starting and hopefully a bit better economy.

I intend to give the bottom end a freshen up at the same time.

Will the injected head bolt to my Paj block? Any other dramas or pitfalls I'm likely to encounter? Can I just cut and shut the relevant parts of the TP loom in? Anything else?

I trawled the site for info but couldn't find anything that specifically dealt with this conversion so any advice, tips or knowledge from you guys will be a huge help. There's no point making a mistake that could've been easily avoided.

I will be doing all the work myself, welding, wiring etc.

cheers, mudfish.

modifying the plenuim to suit has been done on sigmas to run them as injected and also a Pajero .

a guru welder I hope

Most sigmas guys prefer the TR/TS plenium for the bigger throttle body

If engine bay space is critical ...problems you may face with the TP plenium
thermostat position change extra piping
fuel rail modication
changing the throttle body position /stepper motor /
The Maf needed or the motor may not run sweet

you can go turbo and roller rockers
why did you not eliminate the balance shafts on the motor ? (Its a cheap kit )
with the" work "you have planned for that motor - the balance shafts will flog out

Injected conversion I have done personally on the magna motor

As long as the coolant holes line up from block to head you Can use the TP head on the Pajero block......you use the pajero cam shaft ( fit new head bolts )

Would you like keep in the diagnostic pin for the EFI system ?
You can get programmable ECUs if you prefer

From your 89 TP SE wagon ......you will need
the exhaust manifold for the 02 sensor if you want it fitted
Inlet manifold and all its parts
The Dissy and Coil
EFI fuel pump/ EFI fuel hose / metal fuel filter
The front loom-- for wiring .EFI fuses /relay/ ECU /Fuel regulator/ any relays

If I miss anything I add it

Mate, Thanks so much for your info and the PM you sent. This should make my life about 1000% easier.

The only real dramas I can see will be retro fitting the EFI fuel pump if it is internal. If it is an external one it should be fine. I have an external EFI pump out of an old EECIV injected Falcon that I could use.

The Paj has extractors so I will have to drill and weld the boss onto the pipe for the O2 sensor.

I haven't fitted a balance shaft elimination kit because I want to keep the idle as smooth as I can. I also use it as a rest to shoot from so I really don't want a rough idle.

Engine bay space is no problem as there is no engine bay, only a chequer plate bonnet with no sides.

Once again thanks for the reply. I will post some pics when I have gotten into the project.

EFI pumps only (part 14-3-1 of TN Mitsi factory manual )

TN/TP EFI electric 12 v,in tank , operating pressure 196 kPa = 28 psi

that information will get you on your way
