Just a heads up regarding oil filler caps.
In a previous thread, I mentioned problems with oil leaking onto the rocker cover from around the oil filler cap. I intended to buy nitrile rubber sheet to make a new washer for my filler cap. Then I noticed that I could buy the whole cap on eBay for $12 plus $9.95 postage - just as cheap and much easier. Mine just arrived and is indistinguishable from the original.
The aftermarket caps are made by Tridon, so should also be available through places like Supercheap, Autobarn, Repco, etc. The part number is TOC509. The same cap fits all 1st, 2nd & 3rd gen. Magnas including V6 plus many other Mitsubishi models. I remember that prices for the genuine article a couple of years ago were over $40 which was more of a deterrent.

Hi Coldamus the tridon ones last just as long as OEM and have been buying them for 20 year for my Magnas. 1/8th of a turn back when it hits home also helps with tightness. These have been a pain since Mitsubishi introduced them the screw on type are much better. The 4g54 has been put in several other makes like Mazda and different brand forklifts etc does anyone know if any of these manufacturers changed the rocker covers and thus have a screw type cap??? Cheers Vee

Another cheap alternative is to in fact replace just the seal. MD311638 , $1.33 + postage ex sydney
That's all I replaced on my TW when it went hard, nil problem since.

TW2005, thanks for that info. That price sure beats trying to make the seal/washer yourself.
Veeone, I don't know the answer but the Tridon part finder might help, if only to eliminate those which still use the same cap. For example, the part no. of the oil cap for a Ford Courier with 4G54 engine is TOC509, the same as Magna but the Mazda Bravo B2600 has a different part no. It might be quite a job to check them all out. The Tridon part finder is here: http://www.tridon.com.au/partfinder/

Yes, I know but Tridon's part finder specifies the engine type. The Bravo 4WD with the 4G54 motor from March 87 to October 91 still has a different oil cap, TOC513. Believe it or not, it appears to be the screw-on type: http://www.onlineautomotive.com.au/Tridon-Oil-Cap-TOC513 Whether the Bravo rocker cover will fit a Magna 4G54 is another matter but could be worth checking out.

I wonder if they have made a mistake as thats definatley a Mazda style cap and would fit the G6 motor for the Bravo. Vee

Yes, that's a possibility. They list all the Bravo G6 models as also using the TOC513 so it may have been a slip-up by Tridon. In any case, i couldn't find an old enough B2600 to have the 4G54 engine for sale on eBay or anywhere else. They've probably all gone to heaven so it might be impossible to find a rocker cover from one.
Incidentally, the new oil cap that I bought has solved my oil leak problem.
