Just stumbled upon this page where someone has bored/stroked his 6G74 to be 4.0L

Thats a good effort. Must not be possible to fit a 6G75

I'm lead to believe that some Pajeros run in rallies (Paris-Dakar??) may have used bored out 74 blocks with 75 crankshafts to get to just under 4.0l (which was as much as they could take the capacity under the applicable rules) before the 75 engine was released in production Pajeros.

Sadly, for four times the cost of a 6G75, the 4.0l result probably produces less power & torque than a stock 6G75 (maybe more torque down low, though, which is good for a Pajero). A 6G75 can be taken to 4.0l with just a 2mm overbore.

Torque down low is what the owner said he was trying to achieve though.

I don't know if the 6G75 could be transplanted into a Pajero, though I assume since I believe the later ones came with DOHC 3.8L motors that it should be possible.

Remember, though, the extra torque over a stock 6G75 motor is only a maybe. It's by no means assured, especially seeing as how the builder installed Stage 2 RPW cams, which would tend to favour mid-high end power over low-end torque. Transplanting a 6G75 into a 6G74 Pajero is quite doable - as noted in other threads on that forum.

I assume part of the deciding factor for the owner was having a fresh built motor versus installing a used motor into his car.
Either way though I agree with you and personally would opt for a 6G75 conversion myself.

Does anyone know whether the Pajero transmissions are any good, especially when having to cope with additional torque?
